New Tires: KUMO or TOYO

Time to get a new set of tires already!

Looking at 2 options:

1. Get 2 sets: 1. Daily 2. Track

2. Get 1 set for Track and Daily

Daily Driver Tires:
TOYO Proxes T1-R or Proxes 4
KUMO ??

Track:
Toyo RA-1 or R888
Kumo V710

My friend can get me a discount on Toyo & Kumo's through his shop, so i will go for one of these.

Which brand and tire do you recommend from Toyo or Kumo?

Is one tire/brand better for my 997S?

Please recommend a tire for track and one for everyday.

Thanks again guys.

The R888 has grooves for light rain too.

I have a set of R888s on OEM wheels for fun with the 997. You'll be pleased unless you want a super hardcore track tire like Hoosier.

I run V710s on my S2000 for auto-x. Excellent for that. Haven't done any lapping days with the V710s though as I have an old set of Victoracers for that.

My vote would be 1 set of tires for daily and 1 for track.

Toyo

vs

Kumho

You have been misspelling the name Kumho, but I agree 100% I would pick them based on those photo's.

I would get two sets of wheels and tires, get a good set of R Comps, and set for the street. The track tires get thrashed regardless of what you buy.

If you are going 18" wheels for the track, I had a lot of fun on the Yokohama 048.

I had the T1R's on my 04 M3 with 19X9/19X10 RG4's with a 255/35/19 front and 285/30/19 rear and I found the Toyo's to be a great tire for the money. However, they are a tad greasy the first 500 miles or so as alot of tires are when new. Once you heat cycle past this they have extremely good grip. The sidewall is a little soft though which makes for a good ride but they lose a little sharpness due to this vs. a Mich PS2 or such. All in all though I was very pleased with them..

The R888's are an awesome tire, I know several people who are running these tires and are about as close as you are going to get for a track/street tire.

I didn't know Kumho made tires in the 997S sizes..do they?

I went from 048 to MPSC on 19" wheels. Very capable tire, I can't complain about them.
