Rick, thanks for the input. Do you have pics of your car, and are you running 19's or 20's. I don't think I want to lower mine any more than 1" - 1.25"

ATL,
I'm installing a GT3 aero kit (front bumper and tail) at the moment, as soon as I get it together I'll post a before springs and after springs pic for you. This way you can check the ride height difference. Currently running 19" lobster forks. Have a set of black 20" TechArt Formulas available but haven't yet decided if I want to use them or not. Waiting to see the GT3 kit first.

My experience from years ago w/ Eibach springs on cheap import cars was there was a settling period, special for the Pro Sport.

I would install them on Integra's and Civic's of yore and they usually took 2-3 weeks to settle.

I'm wondering if the ride quality is different on stock rims? Just got my C2 and thinkin' about dropping it. I hated angling back in the day and the bumpiness. I also don't like how the wheels go buckle inward.

Will this not happen w/ coilovers?

Tks,
Jay

Jay- Coilovers are the proper way to enhance the ride / handling of your pcar, and really makes quite a significant positive difference. Springs will give you the lowered look and allow for proper alignment, but won't really improve handling due to the soft nature of the factory shocks.
I recommend KWv3 coilovers if you are looking to upgrade your suspension. Great ride / handling. Check out the Group Buy forum area for discount vendor pricing.
Contact www.ef1motorsports.com in Long Beach / Signal Hill, talk to Fab (owner) - He is inexpensive for installation / alignment work and knows his stuff with pcars.

Post request for GB price- Vendors shop is local in SoCal (West LA).

You'll save $$ getting them installed at EF1, plus good knowledgeable service / proper setup. EF1 has done the suspension upgrades / alignments on my Porsche and BMW cars. Great work. If you call, just tell Fab that Kurt referred you for a suspension install.

I had H&R Springs for about 2 years and they went from OEM height to slammed (2"+ drop) over this period of time. I just ripped them out and installed the Bilstein Damptronics and this is a MUCH better setup IMO. Pricey, but worth it for 997 PASM cars. Springs were a nice band-aid but caused me some issues after a year or so into the install...

Man, I've heard too many negatives on the springs only install. I guess I'll wait and do the full coilover setup.

justjay202,

just talked to someone at EF1 and they quoted me $370 for installation and alignment, which will take about 2-3 hours. my local shop in las vegas quoted me price for install, alignment and corner balancing for $1200 and over 8 hours of work. I thought alignment alone took over an hour so I'm wondering how EF1 can offer such low price and faster install/alignment time for the same work.

I'll decide on springs or coilovers within couple of months and if EF1 is as good as you say, I'll be willing to drive out to SoCal for the install.

Hey Brian, I've gotten 3 quotes and they were all for about $600 +/- and they said it would be 1 hr each wheel and alignment is 1 hour total, 5 hours or so. That was in Atlanta though. $370 sounds way too cheap, but $1,200 seems like a lot.

Hey guys,
I don't know what "horror stories" your hearing about springs but I can only say that my experience has only been a good one. Other friends with 997's with lowering springs have had no problems as well. If it is your objective to prepare a track car then sure install coilovers. But you just want to acheive a lower look with a bit of enhanced handling then springs will do it for a lot less $$$. Just my opinion. By the way the install cost usually runs $400-$600 including a re-alignment.
