approaching 30K and need service

Do i need to get the 30K service from porsche or just an oil change will suffice? Also what is included in the 30K service. I am in the Pasadena area and I have heard of Lucent motors to bring my car in for service, any other recommendations for service?. In another message board someone has mentioned fast forward performance. Anyone heard of fast forward? Thanks

I wouldn't go to the dealer for 30k service. You know its over priced. Since you are some what local, check out the SoCal section on this website. There is a thread about 'notable / good shops' specializing in Porsche in OC / LA area. Call around get estimates you'll save $$ for sure. According to the owner's manual 30K service isn't really major anyway, typical fluid, filter and depending on where you go 10-20 point inspection.
Good luck. I'll be doing mine soon as well.

Look at your owners manual and make a list of the recommended items for the 30k service. Then ask some reputable shops what they would charge to do the same. It's mostly inspections.

What's up Chou? Welcome to the forum......now your in trouble. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Arling and Tom at Lucent motors yet. Give them a call. They'll take care of you. While your there you can get wheels, coilovers, exhaust and flash your chip. LOL!

See you and the wife on Sat.

I usually grit my teeth and take it to the dealer every once in a while, just to make sure all TSB's and so on are covered.

I Find them to be more than reasonable (Tom & Arling's shop in LA).
My brother uses them frequently when anything is needed.

Im assuming based on the forum and your mileage that its a first gen 997 and not a turbo The First Minor Maintenance is at 20k and the first Major is at 40k, I would just get an oil change for now and maybe replace the pollen filter, also its a good idea to flush the brake fluid every two years if you havent done so, the 40k Major service includes the Oil change, replacing the air filter, replacing the pollen filter,(flushing the brake fluid if it hasnt been done in the last two years) and a long list of inspections and reading out the fault memory of all the control modules, also if it is a cabriolet recalibrating the cab top. most of the stuff is listed in your maintenance book.
