Fabspeed offers side/secondary muffler bypass pipes which are a direct replacement for the stock mufflers and yield a weight savings of 34.25 lbs/15.5kg from the rear of the vehicle. These muffler bypass pipes will adapt to the stock primary muffler or our X-Pipe bypass, whichever sound is suitable to your driving style. Dyno proven gains of +17WHP/+24WTQ increase power to the crank from 385 BHP stock to 405HP & 310 ft-lbs stock to 337 ft-lb TQ. You can reuse your stock tips with these secondary muffler bypass pipes or Fabspeed's dual quad tips which will be available shortly.

Hey Joey@Fabspeed, I suggest you all make a new seperate post with all you exhaust info for the new 2009 997S. I would have never found it here under the new car post if I was not doing a hard search. I have seen pics of the car and would have never thought to look at this post again for the exhaust mods. Just a suggestion!

Nice Video, love the sound.........

I have an 09 c2 and know very little about exhausts but I love the sound of the new fab exhaust and air.
If I drive to your facility, can you do the install? Have you had any droning or lights going off from these mods?

Acovington we would be glad to do an install on your 09 c2. Sound is subjective but from my standpoint the X-Pipe bypass with stock side mufflers is slightly louder than stock. The side muffler bypass pipes with stock rear muffler is more agressive because you are eliminating two major restriction points from the vehicle. I've been in the car filming as we had all four stages setup (stock, X-Pipe, side bypasses, and then complete bypass) and to my personal taste the complete bypass setup is the best sounding, most aggressive, but has a slight resonance at the 2k RPM mark. I have a video I will post later in the day of the complete bypass setup with the air intake installed. Oh and we never had a check engine light appear with any of these modifications.

Hello Everyone and Happy Thanksgiving!
An update from Joe Fabiani, the President and owner of Fabspeed Motorsports USA. Here are a couple of notes from Fabspeed Motorsports on the development of our T304L stainless steel MAXFLO performance exhaust system components and our MAXFLO CUP air-intake system for all new direct injected 2009 997 Carrera cars and how Fabspeed approaches exotic car performance development.
Fabspeed Motorsports picked up our special ordered car back in September 2009 and have been quietly designing, testing, and engineering these parts for over 60 days. We were the 1st tuner, most likely in the world, to buy this car as we have DONE with all Porsche cars so that Fabspeed Motorsports can develop and offer the world’s best performance upgrades. As a point of reference, in June 2004 we were the 1st company to purchase a 997 S and we did the same in 2006 as we bought a 997 Twin Turbo. We special order these cars so we can develop for Porsche owners, worldwide, the best performance components for their cars. Fabspeed buys the cars and will continue to do so.
Why is this relevant?
So Fabspeed Motorsports can have sufficient long term engineering time to design parts and integrated performance systems.
Loaned cars, as designed cars, are always a BAD DEAL for any Porsche enthusiasts for several reasons. The 1st reason is that the person or entity that borrowed the car (loanee/designer) of aftermarket parts absolutely races/crams/scrambles to "quickly jig up and make something that simply fits the car.” Getting something to FIT the loaned CAR is the one and only criteria. Various quality, design, redesign and other design upgrades are never allowed to progress and development is static once the car is "quickly returned to rightful owner". Making something to fit the loaned car in the shortest amount time as humanly possible is the MAIN objective and always will be no matter what any company or individual tells you.
The 2nd reason loaned cars as design vehicles are a BAD deal for all Porsche and car enthusiasts is that the person "loaner" that is making a gigantic lease or loan payment on their brand new $100,000.00+ car is dying to drive their car and continually calls to get their car back ASAP. Consequently, the "loanee's/designer's” development time and efforts are ultimately shortcutted and circumvented and the loanee/designer "offers" substandard and not fully developed quality parts for this model car.
The 3rd reason is that loaned cars and the parts that were quickly “cobbed together” are never fully tested for sound quality and long term durability. The car is quickly returned to the owner and no further research and development nor durability testing and redesign takes place. This is often why certain exhaust designs and FLAT muffler designs often fall apart and/or bust both internally as signified with rattles inside the mufflers and externally with cracks and exhaust gas leaks.
Last, of course the "Loanee" presents a HARVARD style senior thesis' with voluminous Dyno results and verbiage that are rendered to mask the inherently weak, rushed, single phase design job. The company that borrowed the car furthermore posts that every other companies (read competitor to Loanee company) parts will NOT work as we "tried this & that" and “we tried every possible combination.” I have seen repeatedly of this from a local bucket shop over the last 5 years on Porsche exhaust parts and it is laughable. Like I stated most companies that just borrow cars like our competitors just "rush and shortchange" development to make something fit and make sound and then launch a big marketing campaign. The worst is when unethical and lazy competitor’s just COPY Fabspeed parts and Fabspeed designs to shortcut long term development. This is an unfortunate result as Fabspeed has been copied on virtually all watercooled late model Porsche parts. No company other than Tech ART Germany design parts as we have done from a blank sheet of paper. For example all Porsche 997 non turbo and Porsche 997TT QUAD tips that we designed have been poorly copied and are being sold by bucket shops……..often they don’t fit and are lousy quality.
Mr. Ken McNeil is our design engineer along with myself. I have been a Porsche club member for over 22 years and have PCA club raced and done drivers education since 1986. I have operated Fabspeed Motorsport and been manufacturing exhaust systems for over 15 years. I personally, and my customers have race tested my Maxflo exhaust systems and Maxflo CUP air intakes all over the world with race winning results from early air cooled systems to the latest 12:1 direct injected watercooled multivalve cars.
Ken McNeil has an incredible history in Motorsports. Ken has been building record winning INDY cars, Dirt track cars, NASCAR modifieds and Bonneville World record cars. Ken has designed numerous award winning exhaust systems for many cars and has been published in many magazines. Ken has built custom exhaust systems and has been recruited to repair exhaust systems for Ferrari F40s/ F50s to the the venerable Porsche 935, 956, 962 all the way up to late model watercooled cars like the 996 GT3 CUP to the 997 GT3 CUP cars. Ken has worked with Kelly Moss Racing, Peter Dawe, Motorsports Design and professional race teams from chromemoly 4130N rollcages, chassis set-up to data acquisition and analysis at multiple Daytona 24 hour race he has done it all and also driven all of these tracks too as a professional driver.
Ken and I have designed and tested all the components that were featured in this thread and post. All these parts have been redesigned and tweaked over 4 times to what you see and that has been fully DYNO tested and sound quality tested and Video sampled for your evaluation on our website. Fabspeed owns this car and please feel free to stop by and see us.
Fabspeed Motorsport performance systems have been accurately DYNO tested and our results are not fudged. You might ask “How and aren’t all dynos the same”>
The Fabspeed Motorsports DYNO-JET model #424XLCsquared all wheel drive chassis DYNO is the world’s most advanced and repeatable dyno. Only DYNO JET has a fully automated non tamperable "WEATHER STATION" that logs temperature, relative humidity and barometric pressure in real time. Fabspeed and any late model DYNO JET owner can not under any circumstances alter any parameter or correction factor for any value I just mentioned to skew data like so many other companies easily and quickly do with a "couple of keystrokes". Most Chassis Dynos require all kinds of typed/keyed inputs for car weight, rolling resistance, temperature, humidity and barometric pressure.......competitors and dyno owners routinely "plug in numbers to get the right numbers". Fabspeed’s DYNO jet will 100% NOT allow us to do that so what you see on our posts are what you will get. Unfortunately for Fabspeed, a local competing shop and any chassis DYNO shop can easily ( with a NON weather station dyno) can “plug in adverse correction factors and other data” to drastically lower or even show a loss of power to discredit the other company. With negative correction factors and corrupt Machiavellian motivation with certain chassis DYNOs like a Mustang MD500 AWD you could take a 400HP car and show it making significantly less power all day long.
Why do I mention all of this? I am sick and tired of being quiet as competitors "draw assumptions based on their dyno experience" and say no gains were seen with these particular products. Everything you see on our website and in this post is available from Fabspeed Motorsports and is made from quality T304L stainless steel. Fabspeed components are race quality and designed by world renowned record holding fabricators and racers. All products are welded and manufactured in house. Fabspeed utilizes HJS German metallic catalytic converters and quality components that don’t break nor fail under any circumstances. All of our muffler designs are ROUND and OVAL and never ever flat under any circumstances. Flat and Round mufflers have failed, and always will fail, as this is all public domain.
In the past, Fabspeed Motorsport (Joe Fabiani ) has remained quiet and more focused on making the best products that we can while others have continually slung mud and tried to smear our good reputation. Because I understand the challenge of business and good that comes out of clean competition, it has always interested me in what others were doing but never have I commented on the way they do things until now. Because enough is enough I believe that everyone should know what we do and how we do it no longer leaving it up to other so called self professed super tuners who are falling short on some very basic fundamentals.
I will post more pictures of our shop and facility and some highlights of this wonderful car. In the meantime stay tuned in to our website www.fabspeed.com as we have always gone above and beyond giving as much info including dyno results, video explanations, installation instructions, sound bites, and retail pricing. Please do not hesitate to call in if you do not find the answers you are looking for.
Have a happy holidays from Fabspeed Motorsports.

Fabspeed mentions in there post above about the copy cat exhaust tips and I back back them up on this. I bought a pair of these copy tips from Vertex in Miami and they do not fit 997S sized pipes. Vertex claims they fit but I can tell you it is not a simple pull off the stock tips and put on the Vertex copy of Fabspeeds tips. Then to top it all off I had to fight like hell with the kid that runs the Vertex sales counter and get American Express involved to get my money back.
I am very interested in putting an aftermarket exhaust system on my 2009 997S. I want to hear Fabspeeds car with the X pipe and the Maxflo mufflers and see what it all ends up costing.
I wish I had something for my car for next weekends DE at Sebring though! the car is so quiet I can't hear the engine to know when to shift!

MDRUMS: Check your P.M.'s,
Also here is a video link with the complete bypass setup installed on our 997.2. This system saves 40lbs/18kg from the rear of the vehicle and really enhances the aggressive tone of the 3.8L. TURN YOUR SPEAKERS UP

When I worked with Techart, which he mentions being the closest competitor, when we were out of TA exhausts years back, we in fact used Fabspeed exhausts and informed our clients when we sold them what they were buying and that the quality and finished product were virtually the same...TA tips worked and we never had any issues or complaints with the product.

Tech Art Germany designs new and bold superior products from a fesh sheet of paper. Their bodykits, leather work, pedals and many other parts are well designed and engineered. Tech Art specializes in these areas.
Fabspeed Motorsports USA specializes exclusively in Porsche Maxflo exhaust system development and air intake kits and other exotic cars. As the gentlemen above mentioned we have supplied our systems to Tech Art. Fabspeed has also supplied our systems to Cargraphic, FVD Brombacher Germany and FVD USA, ANDIAL, RUF USA and you name it we have manufactured and supplied it to a veritable whos who of world reknown tuners.
Unfortunately for Tech Art and Fabspeed many companies "just watch and follow" and the then just blatantly copy many of our parts as these compnaies do have an innovative fiber in their souls and no passion.
For example-- I personally engineered Fabspeed QUAD exhaust tips for the 997 and 997 Twin Turbo. Fabspeed was the 1st company in the world to do this for these wonderful cars.........several companies shamelessly made cheap copies of these tips.......... several compnaies of which are on this 6 speed forum and Rennlist forum respectively and they know it. The good thing is that their copies fit like crap. So if you see any companies with TRUE quad separate tips in polished stainless steel or black chrome on these forums they are poorly copied Fabspeed Motorsports parts and you should avoide these companies. Caveat Emptor- dont reward these companies with your patronage. For all you "Porsche Fans" out there....if someone copied your work-- I hope all these Porsche friends on these forums wouldnt reward the copiers!
Lastly, our X pipe design that replaces the PRIMARY 1st muffler on all 2009 direct injected 997,997S cars is the way to go for 1st gains in power and exotic sportscar sound. The Fabspeed Motorsports X pipe design The Worlds 1st to be created for these cars with the proper radius and welds-- ties both cylinder banks of the 6 cylinder engine together. FYI any and all 2009 997 cars have 2 separate 3 cylinder exhaust pathways. So lets see if the others who have stated that X pipes do not work and any other companies out there......... have the integrity to not copy the Fabspeed Motorsport 997 primary muffler X pipe.
I have all new PHOTOS of our new 2ndary mufflers and QUAD tips as we are sound testing and DYNO testing the worlds 1st DUAL TONE muffler for these cars. The muffler is a large OVAL muffler case that is free flow and tuned internal like a pipe organ and will feature 2 sound levels that are easy to change and do it yourself. The mufflers are round and NEVER EVER flat so that they dont break or fail at track events now or in 20 years!
Unfortunately for Tech Art and Fabspeed

The car sounds sick when it's inside the garage. I'm sure it's even more intoxicating in person!

I'm going to pop into this thread real quick. Someone pointed this out to me via e-mail.
Is this the same "Ken McNeil" you referred to in this post:

Many other exhaust systems are lightweight 18guage and 20 guage polished T304stainless that look good........BUT underneath and inside they will eventually crack and fail...>> especially exhaust systems engineered by Ken McNeil and people that wereTRAINED by Kenny McNeil. B&B Triflo, GHL Motorsports and AWE Tuning were all Kenny McNail operations.....
