Why So Expensive?

Exactly...maintenance is a whole other ballgame with these beauties....but like everything else in life...you must pay to play.

Enough said, do yourself a favour, go to your local Porsche dealer and drive a 997. It will wake you up from your coma.
If your able to drive all the cars back to back and come tell us what you think. I know what the outcome will be.

I can use words to describe the various characteristics which have made the car a benchmark from its engine , to it's gearbox , to its suspension . I can talk of its history and how it evolved from the quirky rear engine car 40 years ago to capture the hearts of so many while at the same time making its name a track legend.
But Porsche said it best "it's all for some but not for all" .
I have bought 8 Porsche 911 cars and feel that each car has represented my way of capturing my little part of automotive history .
I can't attach a price to my sentiment but I can't imagine having lived without ever having owned a Porsche . The happiness I got from them is priceless .
I have an 08 BMW M3 too .
BMW's are certainly respectable cars .
and my M3 sure is fast , comfortable, practical, and less expensive ...
But it is not a Porsche .

While I don't agree with this guy, I think new P cars are a little over priced. 98k for a loaded c2sbis a little over priced. They are great cars but 5k cheaper throughout their lineup would be nice.

If it is too much, then skip a few option lesser needed options. I think that you get a great car at any price. I was out a month ago staying with an R8 and F430, both cars are considerably more money then my C2S.

get a used one
That is why I bought one that was next to new and saved over $25k off a new one. Yes you don't get to pick every little option yourself, but for the savings, you can often find one that had everything you need and save a bundle in the process.
Let someone else take the biggest hit in depreciation - after that Porsches hold their value very well comparatively.
At least if price is your concern, there is no better value.
I got a 2007 with 8k miles on it and a longer warranty than factory (up to 100k ) because it was CPO
Unless you have to get the latest and greatest - then don't complain about the price of being on the leading edge. There are many of us here who will be glad to help you get out of that almost new car to get back into a new one!

Some things are worth the money but you have to be able to discern the difference. If your "Mid-engine" Nissan does it for you then you just saved 40k.

Don't you mean Datsun?

You should come to Australia, and check out the base 997 price, it's more than AUD 200k! convert that to USD and it's Porsche GT2 price range. So when you can get a base 997 for USD 75k (which can only get you a BMW 335 here), I reckon it's a bargain! You guys are so lucky to be in the US.
