Holy windshield, need advice!!

I had mine replaced yesterday. In some states, such as FL and SC, it's a ticketable offense to drive with a cracked windshield, so all insurance carries a $50 or $0 deductible for glass. I live in GA, and use Geico, so no such luck. My cost was my comprehensive deductible
I watched Safelite do the work. (My dealership said they outsource the work, and that I'd be totally fine with Safelite). The glass they used on my car is the EXACT same as the Porsche glass they removed- same color, etched logo, etc. I am going to drive it today to make sure the rain-sensors work and that there's no whistling or rattling.

As others have said, insurance covers it and no deductible but thats only if you have full glass coverage. In addition, you do not need to have it done at the dealer, any reputable glass place should have no trouble with it and in fact be better off than dealer since they deal with glass every day
Not to mention that most dealers sublet this job out anyway.

Mine got broken this year by a flying rock on the highway. I live in Florida and the insurance has to cover it with zero deductible (no money out of pocket at all). My local dealer told me repeatedly that they don't do glass themselves but that an independent company with whom they deal with had a lot of experience with the 996s and 997s. I had my OEM glass ordered by the dealer -actually a Porsche genuine item that needed the VIN in order to make sure I got the rain sensing pad - and that company replaced it while I watched, to perfection, and I've had no issues whatsoever. The only thing I needed to spend was about $6 on the trim that covers the rear view mirror as it becomes very unsightly once removed. Like someone else here said, the car will smell like glue for a while but it'll go away. I was very concerned that the car's integrity would have been compromised prior to the job being done but not anymore. If one thinks about it, car manufacturers probably design them around the fact that windshields do get damaged from time to time and must need to be replaced to a high enough standard to comply at least with the law, don't you think?
