I think it Looks good, esp since i'm a fan of the new lights and the lip, and although it seems to be a bit narrower (which i doubt it is) everything remains to be seen. Especially performance aspect. I'm sure it's not much better than the 996. The only drawback i see so far is the center ported exhaust. Leave that for the 2.7

What's not to like?

What's not to like?
The only questions revolve around weight and power (in that order of priority...)

I think that if they leave the front bumper black that extends to the grill I won't like it very much. I would also like to see the rear wing more aggressive a la gt2. the wider body should probably have air scoops similar to the TT/GT2, but different enough to distinguish it permanently from the 997s/carrera. The gt3 (996) is beautiful but too understated for my tastes. many see the appeal of stealth but I think that I would rather have a car that stands apart from the base model cars and at the same time make it very difficult for people to mod a 997 to replica specs externally with a few bolt ons. my 2c only.

From what I've read in the sales material (from a dealer) Porsche has responded to customers saying the GT2 and GT3 need more distinctive visual attributes.

I think the black-out on the "spy" photos are either to disguise the lines or simply because they're working in black plastics in the prototypes.

I like the looks from the front, but the rear wing looks to narrow for the wider body of the 997. I will hold on final judgement till I hear what engine and tranny they are putting in it. I would be a definate nay if its an enhanced Carrera S engine rather than the 964 based case.

Good point on the trans -- let's hope for an option of DSG and a 7spd manual version of the 996 GT3 ... : )

The real question is, will it be a true race bred motor like the current Mk2 model??? ie: dry oil sump, lightened pistons and valves, ect...

Porsche will use the same engine as the current GT3 ...........and just add more power. They will make the USA CUP car a 996 GT3 and next year the 997 GT3 will come out and then they will bring in the new street weapons.

If it is 400 hp that is gutless. I have always thought of the GT3 as a competitor to the Z06 &/or Ferrari 360/430. The other 2 cars have had a massive infusion of hp from 400 to 500 for the Z06 & 396 to 483 hp for the Ferrari. Porsche has to pony up, realize it is not all about them and see what their competitors are doing. Unless they drop 300 lbs. off the car, 400 hp on a car is no longer competitive, especially for a $110K car.
