Advice: Should I get an oil change

Ok I have heard different stories from different mechanics.. so I'm calling for some 6speed knowledge.

My car (997 S) had an oil change 3,600 miles ago.

Since that oil change I have done about 6 autocrosses and 3 full days at the track (80+ miles each day).

My dealer says I don't need an oil change.

My porsche mechanic says I do, as I should change my oil after every 2-3 track days.

Another porsche mechanic told me I don't need one for at least another 2,000-3,000 miles.

WHAT DO YOU THINK???

The opinions will vary on this . Some will opt for the long interval of the manual (particularly those who lease ) while others change frequently .

I have followed the same regimen with all of my Porsches of "one year or 7500 miles whichever comes first" .

I did 13 DE's (about 2000 miles in total) and I am one a one a year for my oil changes. This is based on the advice of both my local dealer as well as the independent that does all the service on my car.

Everyone is different but I change mine every 2 track days. The oil stays at high temperature for a long time on the track.

I think I read in either Excellence or GTPorsche that the oil should be changed after each track day just to be safe.

If you do ALL maintenance according to the Porsche manual AND you have everything documented, you will be fine.

Exactly. Spend the $180 and call it peace of mind.

I change the oil before storing the car for winter, after the 2 last DE's.

It all depends on the oil temps you had on track/autox days... I think that a well driven street car (no track) should change oil every 6000 miles (or 1 year). Tracked cars much more often - in some cases even after each track day. You will hear that oil lasts much longer, yadadyada... I used to change non-synthetics at 3000 miles, so now I double it with synthetics.

Some argue that an oil change is expensive. It does not have to be... it's a DIY task.

Oil change is pretty easy. DIY, save money, and have piece of mind all at once.

people said the original oil come from the factory is special and only for break in.
So, change it earlier than you should is worst than keeping it after 10k.
Anyway, I changed mine at 4k.
