So lets split them if you wish .

Let's say the person plunks down the extra 20 K to retrofit the X51 . He's in Gt3 price territory and instead of 380Hp (997S x51) he gets 415 and a dry sump engine (with the Gt3) ,

Well 415 sounds a lot better ? So let's see a rolling start of a gt3 with a stock Turbo . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BVhWlpGlE0

Now that's just a stock (boring) Turbo . Imagine what another 200Hp can add .

So let's go back to the F77 vs X51 -- each will give a nice midrange punch and great growl on an awesome car BUT if the 997S buyer has that 20K to spend why not jump up all the way?
Would have liked to have researched this before I bought the 997S and placed a F77 package on it. Would have spent the extra 20-30k; don't get me wrong the F77 sounds and handles great, but the 415 HP on the GT3 sounds better. I'l be sticking with my F77 for a while, too much into it now.. Good review guys, thanks.

I thought we were talking about F77 vs. X51 in the context of a used 997S. I assume thats what we are talking since neither work on the new car.

So, in this case, you can buy a used 2006 997S starting around 63K all the way up to 80K depending on the options and miles. I just purchases a fully loaded 997S with PSE, Aero kit, and a lot of interior trim options for 68. Even if I wanted to retrofit a X51 package I would still be 20-30K below the GT3 price range. But, the other thing to think about is that you could feasibly recieve similar gains in the aftermarket for much much less.

The problem is that a lot of the aftermarket upgrades do not have documented proof of a HP increase.

To me, though, I do not believe the extra money required to retrofit the X51 package to a 997S is worth it. Basically you could supercharge your car for the same money. However, I am NA guy myself.

JEllis -- Comparing the X51 with F77 only raised the Gt3 topic when the pricing brought it that close . Even with your example of a used 997S priced in the 60's a 20K retrofit for X51 brings it to the 80's . A used Gt3 is around 100 . A used Turbo might even fall under 100 but if you are sticking to normally aspirated cars the Gt3 is the pick .

Otherwise .. the F77 offers value and BTW it is not as reasonabl;y priced as other aftermarket choices .

Babymd --If you are tracking the car the Gt3 would get my vote hands down . If however you want performance blended with street drivability and comfort ...then my pick is the Turbo . It leaves no doubts as to what's faster .

I hope to make enough money so that one day the jump from 80k to 100k is considered doable when I started with a car that was 60k......

However, I do know what your getting at....

The 20K difference of 80 to 100 gives the X51 PLUS the following :
1) Dry sump engine
2) Limited Slip Differential
3) Aerokit
4) 35 more Hp over the X51 997S .

A lot comes with a Gt3 .

What doesn't come with the car is daily driving capability . The Gt3 is a track car but it also can be the weekend toy . To have this much Hp on tap the Turbo has it but isn't a NA engine .

If price has its influence then X51 is out . F77 is not cheap either . It's just not the price madness for the buck of X51 .
But there are so many others too .... That's what makes this fun.
