Any troubles with AWE cats or Tubi mufflers?

I'm on my second set of Tubi mufflers (997 S) first set were replaced due to a rattle that had developed. Now the rattle is back on the new set. It might end up being one of the AWE 100 cell cats. I'm going in soon to see what the issue is. Anyone else experience the same problem?

I've seen after-market cats come apart on the NA cars before from various suppliers? Has the car been tracked much? Usually though you'll get an OBDII code/warning if that's the case though.

My Fabspeed Maxflo mufflers lasted for 34 track days and many thousands of street miles and when I traded in my car they were still in perfect shape.

I have AWE cats, headers & mufflers with 25,000 miles on them and no problems. No rattles or check engine lights.

For the record, we have never sold 100 cell cats. Please keep us posted, and let me know if there is anything I can do.

Really? I was specifically told by Pfaff tuning in Toronto that I was purchasing the 100 cell cat. Your website also states that the 100 cell cats are an option under the 997/997s section. This means I don't even know what's on my car??? What are they then 200cell? I know they are AWE. Is Pfaff Tuning an offical dealer?

Yes, Pfaff is an official dealer. We have never sold 100 cell as a standard product. I am not the only sales person at A.W.E. Maybe they did a custom order for you through another sales person, and I am just not aware of it...

There is a serial number on all of Porsche products. Get me that number and I can see what you have.

Thanks!

I've had AWE 200-cell cats on the car for over 10000 miles. I drive the car to within and inch of its life whenever possible and no issues to date. I also have AWE mufflers (approx 4500 miles) and AWE headers (approx 1500 miles now) - again no issues.

The only worrying thing on the cats is all the rust accumulating on them - especially on the mild steel flanges, some of the welded seams and the mounting points for the lambda sensors. I think it can only be a matter of time before one of the flanges rusts through or a weld cracks.

f12m05w1. That's all I can make out on the one cat. The serial number plate on the other is not readable from below. Also it seems a few more digits go after what I read but can't be made out. Hope you can give me some insight with the first 8. Thanks for any help. By the way I love your products.

Ian, all our welds and lambda sensors are 100% stainless. Our flanges are carbon steel to match expansion rate with the thinner gauge stainless tubes (eliminated cracking). The thickness of the flange means it would take a hundred years to corrode away.

Some of our very early 300 cell cats on the 997 did have mild steel lambda sensors, but that is going back about 4 years. Are you 100% sure you have our HJS cats in there?

They have HJS stamped on the cans, yes. The rust has appeared (after the car had been stood in wet weather for a couple of weeks) on the flanges, the welds holding the cones to the catalysers and the lambda sensor mounts. I had my local Porsche specialist go round the units with a magnet to see which of the items are mild steel and the flanges, lambda mounts and (to a lesser extent) the cat cans are all magnetic. This would suggest they're mild steel.

....I would add that the UK is a very different test for the corrosion resistance properties of anything under a car. Wet, cold, and millions of tons of salt used on the roads in winter. It's like sitting components in sea water for fun....

I understand, but we are using 300 series stainless in all of these products (except for the flanges) and there should be no oxidation that looks like rust. There will be discoloring from heat, but it will be brown or blue in color. That is normal for stainless.

HJS welds the cones to the cans and they assured us they are also using high grade stainless weld filler.

Do you have any pics you can share with me? Our climate and road conditions are very similar to yours.

That's it. Produced on a Monday in early 2006.

Orginally sold to Pfaff on 3/20/06.

Those are the old style 300 cell cats. Those are not HJS units we are using now.

To answer the original questions, they are not 100 cell.

Thanks Mike! Pfaff Tuning will have some explaining to do.. Is there still warranty on these cats? Also what is the difference between what I have and the new HJS units? What does HJS stand for? I appreciate your quick replies and open discussion on your products.
