Are 2005 Carreras buggy?
The first year of any car has its fair share of quirks that need to be ironed out... what are those of the 2005 3.6?
I was originally shooting for a 996, but I came across a 997 that looks great.
And since prices are falling, would you guys file this under a good deal?

Thanks in advance for your help. And if any of you have good links for further reading on 05s and things to look for, pass them my way!

+1.
I bought a 2005 997S (Cab) in 2007 - pre-owned. Oh heck, I mean used.
I did have one obscure problem with it, but I've not heard it being systemic to the breed/year/model. And in general, from all I've read, there doesn't seem to be any new-model-itis with it. It's really a very very thoroughly debugged 996 (a bit of artistic license here).
After reading a lot, and test driving a few, I totally agree that you should go with the 997. Much better car (IMHO of course).

The cabin and bodywork of the 997 are (somewhat subjectively) superior to the 996, but under the skin, the mechanical bits of the base 997.1 really are quite similar to those of the 996.

I believe (IMHO) the interior of the 997 is far superior than it's predecessor (996). The subtle exterior changes improve (again IMHO) it's appearance compared to the 996.
I have a 'early build' 2005 997S (#337) and other than 'normal' Porsche issues (IE. RMS) it's been rock solid. There were a number of factory recalls so make sure your prospective buy has had them done. You simply have to have it's VIN checked by Porsche service to confirm.
Based on the VIN you should have some of the original warranty left. Since you're not buying from a Porsche dealer the car in question cannot be CPO'd. If you do buy it make sure you get everything under warranty fixed or replaced (if there are any issues).
BTW: It looks very nice in the photo's (silver/black is a great combo) and it has the 'S' exhaust or tips.
Good Luck!

The only thing I had on my 997 was the trunk latch. I would get the return to workshop light after washing it. They fixed it right away, no problems after that.
