im down to go to englishtown, ive heard its a great track. I usually go to lebanon valley which is about 1 1/2 hours north of nyc (its closer for me) and they have test and tune on wednesday nights (less crowded + cooler weather)
I also just joined PCA, so im hoping to get to race at ther next event at Lime Rock, which is an actual circuit track.

any tips?
Nitro - or anyone really...
Any tips on getting a fast launch?
What revs are you going - about 5k? Do you dump the clutch?
I agree - the car actually drives better and smoother, the harder you drive it. Am constantly amazed at how well it responds getting driven hard. Even in the winter! Can't wait for warm weather again to do it on summer tires and with warmer air. The cold seems to slow it down sometimes. Or maybe that's just me in Minnesota.

oh yeah - where are you shifting from 1st to 2nd? Do you run 1st to redline before shifting? Or just under?
I am getting a better feel for being able to shift just in time before hitting the rev limiter. Between 1st and 2nd is my roughest shift - LOVE the power and torque that 2nd gear brings - just amazing. Can't imagine how much more of a rush you guys with mods get.

You guys ever look at the back of a old Motortrend mag (coupla yrs back). It reads 12.1 for a Carrera S!!! And i believe the old Road&Track states 12.3! These are bone stock and probably green 05's. Bogus? The way my car feels now i would expect a 12.0 but not when it was stock....

i launch at around 3k-3.5k and ride out the clutch quickly, u dont want it too spin because youll get wheel hop and u dont want to launch at too low rpm because youll bog..

Actually the best published times for the 997S was Road and Track which ran a 12.3@114.8mph with a 0-60 time of 3.9 sec., this was the Mar. 05 issue. The best Motortrend ever got for the car is a 0-60 time of 4.1 and a 12.6 in the 1/4 mile.

Thanks for the correction.... but still even 12.3? All these guys aren't even close to that with mods. How can all these modded cars here be so much slower? I'm assuming everyone here knows how to drive their car well at the dragstrip.

I saw a video where a guy is just nailing the clutch to quick shift, I don't do it quite that fast, but do slam it down, and as soon as I feel it engage when I am lifting it up I pull up my foot.
I have to say the challenge of doing it all and trying to be smooth and coordinated at the same time, keeps me happy that I have a manual - even though I am sure PDK would do a better job shifting for me, I can't see how it could be as much fun.

mnmatt, thats kinda how i did it, i dropped the clutch quickly but not slamming it and got just a bit of wheel hop maybe for a split second, and shifted at 7k in 1st gear (when i tried to shift at 7.2k it would hit limiter in 1st).. then the rest of the gears i would shift at 7.2k
i was running 12.8 and up and 4.4 0-60 at best when i bought my car... after 10,000 miles i ran those times i posted above 3.9 and 12.4...break-in makes a difference.
Also if u noticed that road and track article when they ran the 12.3, that was on their longterm test of the car, their original test was slower and they actually dynoed the car because of the huge difference and everything came back normal, they concluded it was because the car was broken in.
btw, i didnt follow porsches recommendations for break-in, i took it easy for like 200 miles and then , drove it like i stole it
