997 Fabspeed Bypass pipe (cost & time it takes to install)
Im thinking about going with a Fabspeed bypass pipe but the dealership has said its $395 for the bypass pipe and 4hrs labor time. Can this be true? I read that someone installed it themselves in their garage in under an hr. Is the bypass alone good enough? or should I go highflow cats + bypass pipe?
I want LOUD and DEEP! (i like popping too!)

Figure on an hour or two to remove OEM mufflers and fit bypass pipes.
See this thread for muffler removal. Dead easy (however imo you dont need to remove the rear bumper/heat shields.. just the rear wheels).

For me the bypass pipes were too loud, so I did the exhaust mod.

You can do this at home. It is very simple to do. By pass pipes on the street are EXTREME loud. You will not be able to talk on your cell phone.
I like it loud too but I used Fabspeed Maxflo mufflers and they sounded perfect and loud. if you want a little more loudness then get the Fabspeed 200 cell cats with the free flowing Fabspeed Maxflo mufflers and that will be one of the best sounds going and you will gain some performance too.

dont you have to get under the car for this? Im a big big guy, there is no way I can get my car up high enough to get under it safely. Unless someone else has a good idea that im missing

Yes you will need to jack up the rear and place a jack stand under the car. Takeing off the rear wheel helps a lot too. How big are you? I am big too 6'5" and 240+lbs. I can get under my Porsche.

Yep, I am more slender than you. You actually fit in the car? I'd pay someone to install your exhaust. However from reading your other post's you will not gain the power you are looking for with by pass pipes.

i think i have gone the route of bypass pipes to achieve what im looking for (a really good note) and say fkuk the HP to try to beat em.

I've worked on my own vehicle. Inspite of the numerous posts about removing the rear tires and/or rear bumper, using a lift will save lot's of time. If you can get the car high enough without a lift, the rear mufflers can be twisted out once the top and bottom nuts are removed for the muffler bracket. It will also require removing the tips to get access to the top nuts from the rear of the vehicle. Once the car is cool, if nothing is stubborn, each side can be taken out in 30 minutes. Yesterday I installed a custom sport exhaust system (factory modified porsche mufflers) and the sound is fantastic. The cabin is extremely quiet, even at wot, and the exhaust is custom. Bypass pipes are "cup car" sounding and will be louder than anything you've ever driven. You won't be able to talk on the phone or listen to music comfortably. Some guys love it and others hate it. As a matter of fact, have another set of 997 "porsche sport exhaust" style mufflers that will be ready for sale shortly. Also have a set of fabspeed bypass pipes currently listed for sale at $150.00 here

Bottom line: If you can get under the car easily and have a lift or can elevate the car, it's extremely easy to swap out the mufflers for bypass pipes. The cost of $395 plus labor from the stealership is outragious.

I just got these installed on my 997s, I got them off a buddy who didnt like the extreme loud sound. Anyways. They cost me around $250, and as far as labour goes, i went to Pfaff Tuning they told me 3 hours labour.... Went to local muffler shop, They removed factory exhaust and put the bypass pipes on with tips, within 45 min! Alot of people also told me about removing the rear tires to get the factory exhaust off as well but you dont have to. There are certain bolts you have to un-bolt, and the exhaust just drops down. As far as loudness goes, They are loud IF you pin the gas, but if you shift under 3000 rpm its not so bad. On the high way there is s droning sound, but cruise control fixes that lol. Here is a video i made a few days ago on the highway with my 997s. Lots of wind. Enjoy.

How much did they quote you for the install? i payed $125 + 13% Tax so $140. Anything over that is way too much!
