How to get rid of wheel hop??

I won't drop the clutch on a modded Porsche . It's asking for axle and clutch wear on a car that isn't really a drag race vehicle .
Even on my 700 with a stage three clutch I think about it but have held off .
I felt that the sweet spot on the 997S was 3rd to 4 gear pull .
With the M3 --the wheels break loose far too easily --no clutch drop needed.
BTW Dave -I can't see any in this clip where the car ran 12.4 . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmRc52wmzhs

Great video...I was looking for that video a while back. The resolution of the video is pretty bad, I don't think you would be able to tell.
My E46 M3 had 285/30's on RG4's, the car hooked up great. The only time I would get wheel hop when the rear wheels were making the transition from traction to no traction. If you launched hard from the get go you would get smooth tire spin with the E46.

I was wondering as well if the damptronics would help. I just don't really want to lower the car anymore than OEM..it rubs on everything the way it is. Notice you said you have smooth tire spinning...lack of LSD, we need tires burning out smoothly.

You don't need anything other than some new tires. I put about 25k miles on 2 997 cars at this point (997S and GT3) and never had wheel hop even in 100% throttle applications, whether in straight-line or tight turns. PS2, PSCups, and RA1s are what I've run.

+1 You cannot brutalize the car and get what you want. It is possible to mix a small amt of clutch slip with revs between 3-4K and then go to full throttle when it hooks up. No hop, minimal wheel spin, no burning clutch smell. Finesse. You will get more wheel spin w worn tires and that will worsen the problem. The mixture of small displacement, rear engine and large rubber makes for a problem that the driver has to solve. Slip the clutch a little Dave. But just a little. I have read that LSD minimizes the problem and that makes sense. Less wheelspin, less hop. Practicing up for the drag strip? Gerry

I do slip the clutch a tad..however if you misjudge a tad it's not tire spin you get, it's the rear end feeling like it's trying to seperate itself from the chassis.
I talked to the guys at GMG today at the open house, it's just a characteristic of the car. A LSD will definitely help this.
Guys I don't sit there and see how I am going to trash the car. However I tried to get some good 60ft. runs for practicing a good launch and man if you left a tad to hard you got bad wheel hop. For those of you that have never experienced this, put the tach at 4k rpm + and drop the clutch.
I would love to take the car to the 1320 to see what I can coax out of her...I know I know it's not a drag car but I would love to see what it would do. With the cooler weather here I would love to see what she will run.
I get the car to hook up and just after it hooks as it punches into the vario cam range the wheels will spin and it will hop.
Anyway, I will leave it alone as there really isn't much to do. New tires will definitely help along with a LSD.

For what it's worth I had an Alfa GTV6 many years ago that had the same problem on a stiff spring/shock combo but on standard springs/shocks would simply light up the rear and paint a perfect 11. With the stiffer setup for track work if I did that it would tramp badly, using the same wheel/tire combination I should add. Not good on the start line.....
