It seems that you can let our cars sit very long cuz if you do the battery gets weak.
Porsche even recommends using a charger for the folks who don't drive their cars frequently.
So, my question is, does anyone make a battery for our cars which is a stronger, longer-lasting battery than the one that comes as orig. equip.??

I recently replaced the OEM battery with a Sears DieHard. The Sears has alittle higher cranking power, and it's a little bigger physically. However, the new battery did not solve the slow cranking problem that I have (similar to yours, per your other post).

 

If you leave the car for 7 days or more it shuts itself down apparently. If you try to use the clicker it doesn't work, so you need to open it manually and its guaranteed that you will set the alarm off every time! (at least I did! haha) I called up porsche to see what this was all about and they said its because of the battery. you need to keep it on a tender, especially if your in cold climates.

 

What has your dealership said about your problem??
Mine says it because I don't drive the car often enough, but they're wrong.
I do drive it every two or three days, or oftener.

If you are driving the car that often the battery should be fine, unless the trips are very short so the battery doesn't have enough charging time to replace the energy from the starts.

 

Some of the trips are short but some are not.
I never had this problem with any other car, which is why I'm wondering if there's a stronger battery out there that I can put into the car.

If your car is not starting after sitting after 7 days and your battery is good, it is Porsche's problem, not yours. If under warranty, demand that they find the problem and correct it. If they claim it is niormal, demand a letter from Porsche stating so. (which they will never do)

Here is the statement on the battery from the GT3 owner's Manual:






6 weeks is a far cry from 7 days.

As far as batteries go, Sams' Club and like stores have a battery that is more than you need for around $50. DO NOT be sucked into paying for a more expensive battery as you will gain nothing. All the batteries come with a warrantee.

 

Yep this is a bizzare porsche issue. Seems as though the insatiable appetite for power is something that could have been engineered out of the design.

Yeah, and so were the several BMW's I owned.
None of them ever had a battery problem.

I've gone two weeks without driving my car and had no battery issues. Car started up without any problems.

 

Yeah, I'm thinking that the techs at the dealership haven't yet gotten the the root of my issue.

I too have gone a week or so without driving my car and it may be slightly slower in cranking the first start after a long rest, but nothing like what your video showed in your other post.

 

Today, the starter ground connection is being checked.
