You just need to understand that everything is covered under warranty unless Porsche determines the mods you made were the problem. So yes, some dealers are cool about it because it is unlikely your engine blew because of aftermarket headers. However, if Porsche wants to say your engine blew becuase of your headers, then you are screwed...... Exhaust mods should be fine but understand you could potentially get a CEL as result of exhuast mods and most likely your dealer will not help you out here if the CEL is emmissions related.

I am trading in an 08 C4S on a 09 C4S. The 08 is seven months old with a thousand miles and I put X51 headers on it . The dealer called and asked for the original headers because they could not CPO it if it has the X51 headers. Even though they are a Porsche part, they are considered a modification and the dealer says PCNA would not certify the car unless it was 100% stock.
FWIW.

I read somwhere on these forums that Los Angeles is not the most mod friendly dealership region but my suggestioin is to pick a respected tuner close enough to your area to help you through any issues you may encounter.

I don't believe that you will buy a 100K car , spend another few K in mods . and have everyone back away from helping you .

The dealerships wouldn't sell car and the tuners would not stay in business .
You can worry about this until the cows come home but my advice is to make your car everything you want it to be , ask questions, but spend less time worrying and more time having fun drives.

Dealers around here not only support things like headers, cats, and mufflers, but they install aftermarket / X51 as well. There's no warranty issue at all - what comes out of the car is one thing, what goes in is another. For example, change your air filter / intake to an oiled one (ie: K&N) and foul the MAF, guess what... You are on your own. As others have said, just make sure to keep your OEM and put them back on when you trade-up to the next Porsche. Then sell off the aftermarket for at least 50% of what you paid (vs. getting zero for trying to sell of the oem stuff).

I have Borla headers and exhaust and I just had the car into the dealership for a new alternator (under warranty). The Service Writer and the Tech told me they loved the sound and the dealership is really cool about these mods.

I turned in my 2007 Carrera S with Fabspeed mufflers and GT3 brake cooling ducts. The dealer had no issues with this, CPO'd the car and sold it.

Oh yeah, forgot had the Softronics on it too. The car ran awesome by the way with just the Fabspeed mufflers, BMC air cleaner and Softronics. Even with the Tiptronic I could either pull on or stay with 6speed Carrera S cars at the track plus some of these guys had full exhaust mods too.
