Aftermarket HeadUnit
Hi all,
I am lloking at purchasing a new Nav head unit like a Kenwood or something. I saw one that was a touch screen display that has integrated bluetooth, nav and integrated i-pod interface. I have the older Nav unit without bluetooth or i-pod, just Nav. Any recomendations for aftermarket head units? I like the Kenwood I saw since it is color touchscreen, has Nav, bluetooth and i-pod integration. Has anyone else replace the whole factory standard nav unit with an aftermarket? I know some people use the denison or Tooki for bluetooth but for the price of one of these, I can get bluetooth, i-pod and nav all with one color touchscreen. Am I missing something?
Thanks,
Jon

Search Google, there is some good info on the Kenwood unit. I read that if you switch to an aftermarket unit you will need to also get an aftermarket amp due to the fact that the stock system is fiberoptic and the aftermarket unit will not be compatible.

Some people have done this - it is not too drastic a change. You do lose the radio-related display line under the digital speed at the bottom of the tach: it becomes a line of dashes "------" all the time. There is a pic of Blaktout's Pioneer install in this thread:

And a thread where a person used the Kenwood headunit:

As mentioned you cannot use the factory amp since it uses a fiber-optic input only. But amps are easy too.
Cheers!

You would lose functions.
I would contact Jeremy Katz at www.advancedaudiodesigns.com
He is a wizard as to what he has done with Maserati units. I am sure he can advise about Porsche as well.
