This is not quite an answer to your question, but I have a 120Gb iPod classic in my 997.1 that has the mObridge system fitted. I mention this as we've also got an iTouch in the family and I use a 2G iPhone.

The phone sits in my pocket and connects via bluetooth. The iPod stays in the car unless I'm updating playlists which I manage using iTunes.

I started thinking one device would do both music and phone but having to connect it up quickly became a drag so I bought the classic and in the process got much more storage capacity.
