997 C4S : left side sooting on exhaust - Known problem ?
My car has 34k miles. 06 Model.
I had an oil change a 1000 miles ago. But Sunday i had to put a quarter of oil as the gauge was blinking. Now, my left exhaust tip is very dark compared to the right one. It's almost black.
I read on another board that this is a known problem with early 997s that might result in an engine change?
Any ideas ?
Thanks

Thanks.
I stopped by my dealer yesterday and they didnt seem too worried about it. Couldnt explain why only one side was sooted up..
They put me on the Oil Consumption test...

Maybe you need to be stopping by another dealer soon.

I would try an Italian tune up! Get on the open roan and rev that engine to redline from 2nd through 4th gear as many times as you can. Then check your exhaust pipes. I would bet all of them will have soot. I do this on a regular basis because I live so close to work my car barley reaches 200 degrees. These cars were meant to be driven much harder than most of us use them.

Hmmm.... I'm doing my best to make the most of the car on my commute I got up to 110 mph on the way to work this morning. I passed some van at 80 on my way down the ramp onto this quiet stretch of highway (as per the usual routine) and I looked in the rear view to see this Acura had zoomed right up my tail from nowhere.
Up my tail at 80? Ok then. He followed me up to 110, that's when I got off the highway again. I'm still in my snow shoes, so I'm not going to push it.
I think it's the rear spoiler on the C4S. Lot's of people see that and they can't resist.

I had this issue with my 05, the cylinders were "not round" as dicovered after a compression test of the cylinders, 2 of the 6 were slightly oval, my engine was switched out. I'd go to another dealer, that's not normal. Porsche has a good reputation of doing the right thing, but not all dealers do. Good luck. If you look at the PCA site, they have my right up under engine in the mechanical forum area.
