Review: Michelin Pilot sport vs Contisport contact 3
i have tried almost every tire under the sun. most recently, i did a back to back run through some twisties in C6 Z06s one with MPS and the other with Continental contact 3 (their latest max performance tire).
Z #1 mps = 275-35-18 f 345-30-19 rear 18x9.5 19x12 wheels
Z #2 conti sport 3 = 275-35-19 f and 325-25-20 rear 19x10 20x12
mps had more lateral grip and straight line grip. basically its a stickier tire. road noise was less in the mps. conti's were good but just not in the same league.
one area that the conti's were better is that as you approach its limits, it lets you know and begans a gradual skid which you can pull back in with control.
the mps has a higher thresh hold but when it is reached, it lets go abruptly and that can get scary especially without the skills of a pro driver.
if i had to choose one for the porsche, without a doubt, mps. if you dont push the car too much and just cruise it around, the contis are more economical and i would go that route.

I found them severly lacking in straight line traction to be honest with you. Granted nothing other than DR's will dead hook on my car but I was suprised after I almost totalled out my car on the 1st to 2nd shift....

My contis on a previous 996 wore out in 6K miles with the rears and were my least favorite tire. They also seemed to have a knack at eating nails and making sure it was right in the groove causing tire replacement.
In contrast the PS2 on both my previous 997S and current is an amazing stock tire . It has good grip, wears well, and offers minimal road noise . I happen to also have them on my Civic Si and unlike the runflats on my M3 I applaud Honda for choosing this tire as well.

I have tracked Michelin PS2's a lot and never found them to abruptly let go. They were always progressive at the limits and howled like crazy....vastly different than the Toyo RA1 and R888 R-Compund tires I use at the track.

+1 on taking PS2s to the track, they howl nicely and will give you plenty of warning before they let go, they also have a lot of grip! R comps of course have higher grip but give a lot less warning and I am still learning to get decent performance out of my street tires on the track!
I have not used Contisport Contact 3 but had some version 2s on another car; they had less grip and howled very very early (on my DD!) I now use Goodyear F1 all seasons on my DD a much better tire. (Yes I need a tire with some snow performance on my DD.

They work fine on my 95 325i but on my car that has alot more power they were terrible for straight line traction.

we were doing a hwy 4 run which is 17 miles of endless turns and elavation changes with almost no room for error.
the conti's let you know right off the bat not to push too hard because the car would slide around pretty easily when provoked so it let you know what kind of grip you were working with.
the mps had better grip which led to higher speeds around turns but when the car would get loose, it was down right scary. maybe on a track with some run off room, i could get a little more aggressive.
tried to do some drifting too. the mps was a bit tougher as well to get going

I have the new Conti 3 on my car currently. I also have the PS2's on my 19" wheels. For everyday use the Cont 3 work just as good. They are night and day better than the old conti 2. I would buy them again. I bought them from Damon at tirerack. Nice to save a little coin
