best way to clean wheels

I hate cleaning my wheels. It is a pain in the ****. I have been simply using a rag and soap and water. I always hit my knuckles on the caliper and I can't reach back there. Surely there is an easier way. Anyone? maybe a spray that you can spray on and hose off? One that won't damage the rim.

What? I'm not sure what you mean. I would say just don't get them dirty in the first place. Are you... driving your car?

You know what the rules are: Get the clear bra installed, and then see your garage queen reign. If it gets dusty, you can get a feather brush to clean it.

A pair of disposable latex gloves helps with ease of bumping into the calipers.
Honestely soap and water is the best route to go in the long room.
Using wheel cleaners frequently risk taking the Clear Coat off your wheels.
A friend of mine who details and always has perfect wheels taught me this trick a
few years back ,sponge with soap and water to get in the tights spots and afterwards light Wax on the wheels it really helps the dirt and brake dust come off easier the next time.

+1, except I use Nitrile Gloves.

The wheel cleaners have never worked for me, I have tried a number of brands and they never get the wheels as clean as water, sponge and elbow grease.

Use a ph neutral wheel cleaner. I 've used P21S, Griott's Garage and the stuff BMW sells at their dealers, which is ph neutral and, of the 3, is the cheapest. Have also used Simple Green to loosen the grime. Whatever you do, do not use anything that says it's Harmful to your Skin or Eyes as they contain acids which will rremove the clear coat. Ph neutral cleaners will not affect the clear coat or paint in any way and the ones listed above can be left on the for more than 30 seconds. (That caution is a dead give away the cleaner contains acids.)

you still have to get down there and rub the wheels clean. the line about ps21 and hose it off doesnt work.

as long as you will have to get down and clean the wheels by hand, it doesnt matter what you use.

most of us dont keep cars or wheels, for that matter, long enough to worry what soap will do in the long run

Then she should clean them!

Porsche brake dust makes for some nasty stains...I'd like to see the Oxi-Clean guy on tv try and remove the residual brake dust stains on my wheel wash mit...lol

Swiffer Duster

The best and easy way to clean rims is to use a product called Swiffer Duster. Use it often and it is very easy to clean using this product. See it HERE.

+1 on the P21s. Just one very light squirt/fine spray is enough. I use a soft sponge that I rinse frequently.

Depending on your wheel's finish, consider a coat of Rejex

Actually, soap won't bother the wheels at all. The acid in most readily available wheels cleaners will. But if you don't keep the car that long you don't need to bother cleaning them at all, just get a new one when the wheels get dirty.
