Quick question on the 2005 997S "launch" cars
Hey guys,
I actually own one of these cars. These were the cars that were sent to the dealers with every option you could think of, PCCB’s and all … Loved every mile I put on her !! It's pristine condition, 12,300 on the clock, and I'm selling to get myself into a 997 TT.
Questions:
1. How many of these cars were made ?
2. How much should I list for ? (I'm in San Diego).
Extras: Tubi exhaust, short shifter, clear bra
Thanks for ur help,
SoCal911

I too have one of the 997 2005 Launch Cars. Geez I bet your 997 is black/black w/ adaptive seats, full leather, PCCBs, NAV, etc. etc. My VIN is #337 but I don't know it that really means Porsche built at least 337 Launch Cars.
I've got close to 17K miles and I thought that was low mileage. You noted that you have 12K miles. You should have taken it out the garage more (lol). Low mileage is certainly a 'sales aid'. I suspect it's out of the 4 yr. warranty period or close to it. If you have the 6 year warranty then you have some warranty level left and that would be a real sales plus.
As far as pricing goes I suspect it's pretty soft in today's economy. Soft is probably not the right word. More like painfully low. I'd suspect low $50Ks (if some warranty is left) and high $40Ks (out of warranty) might be the best you could expect. That too depends on geographic location, etc.
I'd be really interested on how you make out. It might be best to do a dealer trade deal if you can't find a suitable private party sale.
Good Luck . . . . .

Hey Socal. I have a buyer looking for a 997S right now. He really wants Red or Yellow, but will consider all colors. If the price is right, he is ready to purchase asap. Send me your contact details via PM.
Thanks,
Nick

A fully equipped black 997S with low mileage. The buyer of your car will get a steal given the current economy and too many 997S on sale out there.
Maybe you can tell us why upgrade to 997TT? Do you need the extra hp, 4WD, or you like the turbo body better? Interior of both cars are exactly the same. I know buying a car is just like buying a toy and we don't need a reason for it. But just curious about your move. Thanks.

Targa Tim -
I've always loved and wanted the TT ! Love the "hips", never owned a all-wheel drive performance car, have a rare opportunity to get in a loaded Blk/Blk '08 TT with 9,200 miles on it with a tubi exhaust ! This car will be a second driver as all the other Porsche's I’ve owned in the past have been ...
If I didn’t have the opportunity to get into the TT, I would keep the 997S ! It's been by far my favorite Porsche ...

i recently got into a MY08 997TT from a MY05 997S - both are great cars. The TT is an animal! The market is soft for TT, but seems to be better for 997S. I'm guessing $40k-$50k for your car - espeically if you can CPO it. GL

I had one . I had to sell it because at that time the car theives loved it as much as i did . Black/black ceramics /adpative MSRP 99.3K . Each dealership was given one at the time (August 04) . Most 997S cars were sold out and I took one look at that car and ran home to get my checkbook and buy it three days after the cars were launched.
Awesome car .
You could try 55K . There are positives and negatives on resale .
Positives -It has everything plus a nice exhaust .
Negatives -I think the ceramics were the first gen . I faced no issues but other did plus used shoppers get nervous with out of warranty cars with ceramics .

I believe all MY 2005 w/ factory PCCBs are 2nd Generation variety. Even the initial 'Launch Cars'.
If you don't track a PCCB equipped car they are a definite plus. Extremely long life, great performance and less dust then conventional metal rotors. Those great looking yellow calipers are another 'visual' plus.

Another positve thing is that these cars has got special attention during manufacturing compared regular production, almost hand made for best quality. Since these was dealer cars it was very important that these cars where as perfect as possible. Also heard stories that when Porsche make their engine, they have a performance gap +-2%. The launch cars are said to have engines with best performance.

These cars did have PCCB gen 2 discs. Very easy to see because of lot more ventilation on these than gen. 1

My only regret (and I regret this every time I buy a black car) is that I wish it was silver or white over a black interior. But then again black is a hobby not a color.

I never heard the 'hand made' notion regarding 'Launch Cars' but it sounds reasonable. If that's the case then I'd ask a premium for one during a sales transaction. I can tell you that my motor has never burned an ounce of oil in the 2 1/2 years I've had it. The oil level meter never drops (I've checked it during oil changes so I know it works). Does that mean the motor was assembled w/ great care and precise tolerances or am I just fortunate. Whatever . . . . the 2005 Launch Car I have has consistent panel-to-panel spacing, impeccable paint and a flawless interior. Just like most Porsche's do.
