Congrats ... if it works out.

Sorry if this is common knowledge, but what is a DME scan?

A DME scan will check the engines ECU for engine over revs. A search can pull up many threads but this one explains it quite well. Especially post #17

Thanks.

I did a search but that thread provided a much better description than what I came up with.

Great thread. I wonder if the prepurchase inspections give you clutch and brake wear. I've seen "garage queens" that have had major clutch wear because the driver would ride the clutch. Sometimes Porsches that have been pushed to the limits perform better than the 'grandma style' driven ones.

Good point; dealer can show you the 100 pt. inspection sheet, but how accurate are the inspections going to be since the stealer wants the higher margin CPO designation. As you probably know, the warranty does not cover any 'wear items' such as tires, clutches, or brake pads so does the Tech give a damn? http://www.porsche.com/usa/pre-owned...oved/warranty/

A few months ago, attempting to trade my 06 (in 'perfect' condition) I suggested to 2 Florida dealers that they do the inspection BEFORE they shot me a trade in value; you should have seen them squirm and weasel as they refused.

What other info relevant to a potential used car buyer can be gleaned from 911 electronics?

Thanks!

On the over rev issue: on the 997.1S torque maxs at about 4500 RPM and HP at about 6600, so competent drivers know they have no reason to wind it up to 7000+ other than great noise. If they do a DME readout and you have a bunch of range 1 and 2 recordings it should not have hurt the engine but you might then ask yourself what other little stunts have occured.

See if a car sold as "stock" is really stock by trying to detect if it was flashed . It's a debate topic where some claim its undetectable.

Water damage -- it doesn't show on a carfax and may not even have repair history . This was an issue when all those hurricanes hit the southeast in 05 .

New Motor -- Some have no issues with a car on aused lot with 3K miles and a new motor . Usually the preious owner went through an ordeal . There are two threads on the Turbo forum. One guy went the full distance and claimed that his effort got him a new car . https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ent-lemon.html

Congrats . Don't forget to have them throw in the clear side markers . The amber ones offset the atlas and with clears it wil look beautiful . It's a nice car. I can't help but post a pic .I am pretty sure this is it .

That's the one. I couldn't be happier. Clear side markers were installed before I signed the paperwork. They look great. Took a drive late last night and wanted to get up all night long and do it again. One thing is certain. I need a radar detector.

Congrats on the car. Looks gorgeous.

Not to cause thread drift, but was wondering about the side markers. Are they legal everywhere? And do you need to get amber bulbs once you put in clears?

Thanks.
