305 vs 295 for rear tires on C2S

I'm replacing my rear tires on my C2S which are currently:

305/25/20 ContiSportContact3's

if I replace them w/ Michelin PS2's but they are 295/25/20 will the gap in the wheel well look bigger (from 305 vs 295) or will I not even notice?

My car is not lowered and I'm probably not going to lower it any time soon. I didn't know if going from a 305 to 295 tire would make a difference.

Thanks!

This should show you everything you want to know.

Why do you want to go to a 295?

Thanks for posting that up Ed! I just found a good local deal on 295's that's why I'm considering it.

The difference seems very small, but I'll kick myself if the gap in my wheel well is any bigger than it is now. It'll bug me to no end and I'll probably end up lowering it, but do you think it will be noticeable?

You are almost a 1/4 inch lower then the 305's, so yes you will notice it.

I run 295's on the street and 305's (bot on 19" wheels) on the track and I notice the difference in side wall.

If the deal is really good then do the 295's and take the money you saved and but a lower suspension. Your car will look better then it already does.

Ok, that's what I figured, maybe I should stick to the 305. What's the max size I could go, 315? Based on this logic I assume the gap will look smaller w/ a 315?

I'm so cheap I just need to lower the car...

Here you go, I did the numbers for the 315 and 325. The bottom line shows the difference over your original tire.

I don't think it's possible to run a 315 or 325 wide rear tire on a NB without rubbing is it? I believe 305 is the max recommended on a NB.

I'm not 100% sure about how the tire wall design of the Conti compares to the Michelin, but I know the 295/25/20 PS2 is the same size as the 305/25/20 Pirelli PZero. The Michelin has a more squared-off tire wall so it has similar characteristics to a 305 sized tire. If it were up to me, I would run the PS2s for the performance characteristics alone.

Justin's right. Also, in general, 305 is all you want to go on a NB.

true, true

I have a 997 C2s with the 19" Lobster fork wheels (which I am trying to get rid of, by the way, if anyone is interested...search for threads started by me to find the post and pics), and it is true that with the 295/30/19 the tire is stretched out pretty wide!

295 is the factory spec tire on the 19" x 11" rears, and they do quite a bit of testing, but if you think they are too narrow for an 11" rim......
