997.2 Fueling issue / Solution
#16
Working it way, one tank at at time

I've never had a problem in general. I suspect its the particular pumps and how they are calibrated to shut off. I've noticed it can depend on the flow rate of the pump as well. Some stations have pumps with the flow rate at full open nozzel being very slow.. where it takes forrrr-eeeee-vvvvver to fill the tank. Never an issue there. Others, they have the pressure/flow cranked way up and on even my old VW Golf, the fuel came so fast the auto-shut off kicked in half the time after 1 second because of the way the fuel flowed into the tank form the entry point.

It may have something to do with the particular vapor recovery nozzles in California.

It happens in california alot the gas nozzles create back pressure so the nozzle kicks out thinking our gas tanks are full when they arent yet. Porsche has a black plastic ring you can buy($7.89) cheap solution it slips over the top an say good bye to the problem

If your car is still under warranty, the P dealer will install the plastic ring and fix the issue. Just had this done to my car last week.

I found that if I drove the car for a while and then got gas, the vapor trap clicks in and it's a pain to fill up.
If I get gas when the car is still cold, the tank fills all the way without snapping off. I suspect that a car up to operating temperature creates vapors that triggers the off switch in the gas nozzle.

Do you have a link by any chance?

Really? I've always just turned the nozzle like others have suggested. 90 degrees works fine for me. However, I like this solution better. I'll go to auto gallery next weekend and see if they hook me up.
