painting sport seat backs

yes the DIY part is take it to a bodyshop, not to be rude but thats the truth, you wont be able to get it even close to the quality you want with out a spraybooth and proper taping

I haven't done it, but the body shop I use has, and they said, they just removed the seats whole, masked everything that is not to be painted, and shoot them.
At one time I wanted to paint the seat backs Azurro California Blue (which originally was supposed to be an available option for the Club Coupes but wasn't), but decided to leave them the stock color.
If you can find instructions on how to break the seats down, Eric at bumperplugs.com could paint the parts any color you desire.

Its certainly a PITA to remove the seat backs from the factory sport seats. I would highly recommend taking the car to an upholstery shop and have them remove the seatbacks and then bring them to the body shop. We have even seen most local dealers in our area sub out the work to a reputable upholstery shop.

what would it cost to have the backs of a 997 seat painted?

I almost did it on mine except a black/black car would be too stark . It looks incredible on a white car or a silver car . On a white car I would even go one step further . Techart makes these laquer interior bits that look amazing in white .
