Just bought this middle console from someone in here, who confirmed it's a brand new take-off from a new car, so he would believe the console is unmodified.

So now I see this hole right in front of the cigar lighter. If this is not customized, what would this hole for?

The part number is 99764116500. Is this a new function in the later years of 997s? My MY05 car doesn't come with this indicator. Can I retrofit it?

 

Now I am convinced that it can't be retrofitted.

You could buy a light and just put it in the hole, or you could resell the part and order the correct one for the 05.

 

I'm guessing you got a good deal on the part. I'd contact Suncoast or Sunset Imports (depending on what end of the coast you are on) and follow NorthVan's advice in buying the part and inserting it in the hole. Yes, it will have no function, but I'm guessing it'll be cheaper than trying to sell it/buying another one or, worse even, trying to fill the hole/respray the console.

 

this hole is only present in yours country car because here in europe we havent this "passenger air bag" warning light and we haven't this hole in the center console in any year 997 cars

 

I agree with others, just buy the part and fill the hole. No-one looks at that thing anyways.

I put in a new console in my '05, and it came with the light. The light of course doesn't light up, as the wiring harness for an '05 doesn't include it.

I was hoping that someone would have hit rock bottom and said it. I realized that I am the only one that thinks that way and is willing to say it...oh well so I am bad!

I guess I would just do what people suggested, to make a dummy indicator to cover it up.

you may say so, but it didn't end up as a happy trade! the seller didn't tell me all truth of the condition of the parts I was buying (not talking about this console, but something else)...sigh...

 

The whole passenger side airbag is a dealer installable item. Basically, they install a keyswitch to activate / bypass the airbag, and then this light comes on in the center console.

While I like the idea of the bypass....I HATE the light up deal. I wonder if you could have the key activated bypass installed, but NOT the light up gizmo?
