General Price Question
#16
Moz - The C4S at 20 percent sounds fair considering the region . You could split hairs over an extra 2 grand but I think you ought to enjoy the car and feel content .
Wa1l - I have been looking at Mercedes for a friend and noticing the trend of price drop travelling north of Miami/Ft Lauderdale .
The idea that you could sell your car and make 5 grand still won't account for the tax which places you near an even key exchange to go into a car where they profit .
If you are seeing a 15 percent discount it might be due to a rebate or incentives. The same can be said for the recent lease deals . Dealerships may be eager to move cars but most are not desperate . In fact if a dealership offers buy your car back for more than what you paid and sell it for more than they paid .. it reveals strength in the market not weakness .

like i said i went in local.. drove a coupe.. they came back 3k off sticker (4%) i laughed at the sales guy and said bring me a real offer... he went back, (probably smoked a cigarette and didnt even talk to anyone) came back another 3k (8% now)... i laughed again and he said.. im sorry we cant do anything else.. i then asked where the sales managers office was and sat down and broke it down for him.. telling him where other dealers "were" and the costs of shipping of course add on but still they are considerably less than him.. he then went another 2k.. (~10%now) and i just said "you dont get it?"
we shot the **** for a while and finally he put the number i had been talking about all along (basically 16.5%) and said ok lets just get it done... this was on an 09... brand new.. not preowned and we were talking BUYING #'s and not lease #'s with coupons factored in....

Oh I am very content - just loving my new 997, really nice upgrade from my 996 and I thought the price was fair, and in the end MY time and peace of mind is worth something too -in fact, I consider that the most worthy in the overall car buying experience.
I spent an hour researching online a half dozen dealers in the greater SoCal area, just to get a baseline of what they offered as specials or discounts off msrp - gave me a few dealers to call to confirm inventory of some models I liked ,spent maybe 30 min total there.
My entire Rusnak buying trip lasted about 20 min from walking in to signing all the papers and driving off. Fair price, fair deal - in and out just how I wanted. Now it's all enjoying the car and drives to nowhere

Wa11 -- questions--
1)You express that certain regions ( Ohio and Michigan ) out of state are quoting you better prices . Did you buy a car from them or are these just phone qotes ?
2) If you buy a car out of state you still have to travel there or ship it . Where's the savings?
I can agree that a dealership two hours away may want to snag a sale from your local dealer but you claim to have called "75 - 80" dealerships and after all that you still want out of yoir car that you bought two weeks ago.

2) i do online sales and sit on my couch all day long so the cost for me to travel to get a car is... free ticket using miles (without miles like 100-150$) and then driving it back @ 2$ per every 20 miles, and then add on hotel if far distance.. shipping is an option and not much more.. maybe 500-750$ more overall but i have nothing better to do.. might as well fly somewhere and drive the car back and get used to it on the way.
ending statement: i dont want "out" of my car i just bought.. i really like it.. i called around originally asking about 05/06 "S" coupes... then decided to get 09 PDK and negotiated around on those... then at the end while searching for 09 manuals after i decided i didnt like PDK as much as i thought, i found my car.... the price was decent.. but got better after negotiating.... i bought it because it was just stupid not to buy.. after buying i realized i still want a coupe... so i have been dabbling with the idea of buying a coupe in addition to my cab or trading my cab in on a coupe... after talking numbers and seeing that i can make a quick 5-6k on what i paid for my car and still get the 08 for a dirt cheap price... that has been an idea in my head..... but new is only better for so long until the difference between an 05 and an 08 really doesnt mean anything and my cab will have higher "value" in the long run because of it being a cab and our climate here in florida..
so now.. im honestly leaning towards picking up a coupe in addition to the cab... but more than likely an already depreciated over 50% 05/06 model... because its the same as the 08 besides the warranty and the price is a good 20-25k less.. again not that im cheap but i work everything in my head as a "what i paid versus what ill get" equation.
as far as having 2 porsches of the same model but different top configuration.. they are great deals and in the long run will only depreciate very little and porsche is a great brand as far as quality..
like i said before.. i do nothing but sit all day... so i have plenty of time to think of these things and yes my thought process might be off.. but it works for me.. there are always going to be people that just pay retail and i LOVE THEM because they in turn keep our car values high... ill just be that guy that nickles and dimes and pisses dealers off because in the end when u drive off the lot.. the car is what it is... if i gave in and paid 95k or i lowballed and offended them and got it for 70k... its the same exact car and will run the exact same way.. and that 25k is a nice bonus i just earned myself for getting out of the house and having fun negotiating for a day. i understand other people have more demanding jobs and less time to dilly dally on car deals but if im sitting on my couch watching tv or im at a dealer negotiating the same amount of money goes into my bank acct from my online business.. so i might as well get out and about and have some fun screwing with dealers.
i hope noone takes offense to my bluntness... im sorry if offended anyone with anything i said.. just being honest and straightforward.... hopefully will encourage someone else to 'stick it" to the dealers... too many people get screwed on a daily basis to feel any compassion for car dealers... the 10k useless warranties and the random thousands that get added for no reason... or the hours they make you sit while they break you down to pay more... or the 1500$ pin-striping they say "is already on the car" just makes me sick sometimes... if dealers were honest i would feel bad.. but they arent in the least... dont even get me started on repair costs.. OMFG!
im done for the night... good luck car hunting to the OP! bay area is going to be hard to get lower numbers because the $ and demand there.. but do what u can... and if you dont mind and have the time i would suggest calling dealers east of you..

Thanks for all the info.
I've been checking the on-line inventory of local dealers and a lot of them have 2008 Turbo Cabs. Since this is a much more expensive car, and there must be more profit in it, what type of discount is reasonable? Most of them seem to be around $140K.
I don't know if I want to put this much money into a turbo now, but if I had the money factor I could start working out the lease numbers. Any idea what they are? Any current information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Just an FYI -If you mod that car it was posted on the 997tt forum that your dealership (post number 82) is not mod friendly. The entire thread is worth reading.

I do know of one impeccable Turbo coupe (07 used) in your region . It was my friends car . It's white and six speed 07 coupe and it has sat at a dealership for months . He babied that car . The only option it does not have is the axle lock . He never modded it -non smoker . garage kept ..
I keep telling people about this car .
There are deals . The Turbo is the way to go for the price IMO.

I am in complete agreement . I can't see driving hours to save 1K . I did once drive three hours to save 7 grand and I did drive one hour to save three grand on my m3 .

Either way I'll call Rusnak just to check out the situation. Anyone have a pointer on how relevant it is in getting warranty service that you bought your car from that dealer?
e.g. if Mr. Rusnak's no mod policy is in effect I'm telling Rusnak to go to hell and find another local or even greater Socal area dealer to be my service dealer.
I'd rather not go the route of Porsche PSE and X51 headers instead of AWE or something like that because of some stupid warranty situation.

Service is a different section from the sales . Some dealerships may opt out of a free loaner car but all of them want yoir business .
