Bad day, gets worse

Windshield gets hit by something big, rock I guess, and shatters on passenger side. Not a big deal since insurance will cover it, yet sucks that it happens and the car will need to go through the wear of having it replaced. Then on the way home from work (this is not a daily driver, just drove it in today for a different reason) and on the way home, something was in the road, totally no way to avoid it. It slams the front Techart spoiler cracking it in two and ripping it from the sides of the OEM bumper. Then whatever it was that I hit, also ran up under the car, bending the drivers side skirt away from the car. I am sure insurance will pay for all of it, or so I hope, but I am so frustrated and upset.

Just not sure where to take it to get fixed, if they will fix it correctly, will the get the right part, etc.

Advice?

Sorry Skiz. Someday, it seems everything is out to get you. Think of it this way. You made a huge deposit into the karma bank. Hope everything gets fixed quickly.

Right now, the plan is to call the dealership to get a recommendation and then talk with my insurance agent. I have a totally different company that is repainting the new techart spoiler that is getting replaced under warranty, so maybe they can do the work too. Who knows at this point. I just want it fixed to be honest. I love driving the car and just want the car to be put back as in perfect condition as it can be. FML

Windshield is an easy fix . The car will smell like glue if the process is the same as it was years ago (my old 993 got slammed by a rock ) . The paint and bodywork is another story . It must get done right and in the recent economy quite a few body shops with talent closed so its hard to find a good one.

I agree with you on going through your dealership . It's going to be ok . At least you weren't hurt and the structural integrity of the car is fine .

Well I will make all sorts of calls in the morning. Basically, it would be best if I can turn the car over to the company already doing the rear spoilers on the car. Hoping they can handle a little front end body kit fix and repaint. Sucks from a resale value, but I have no plans to sell the car anytime in the near future. They deal in all high end cars, so I feel confident they would be good. Called Ultimate Audio. Anyway, only question is if my insurance company will let me go through them. I have to work in the morning, so I need to call the insurance agent, then Porsche dealership and then Ultimate Audio.

The key thing about the painting especially on a dark color is to use quality paint and blend with no overspray . The aim is to avoid a two tone car in a year from now. Take the time to sort out your emotions and go with whoever you feel has reasurred your confidence .

Given that run of tough luck, we're just all thankful that you came away from it unscathed. Everything else can be repaired.

Make sure that you get a glass guy who knows how to install this windshield properly. There are stories of leaking/whistling windshields. The best shops want to to keep the car stopped in place 24h to cure the adhesive properly. Check also that the installer is careful attaching the antenna and rearview mirror. Good luck!

You guys are the best, thanks for keeping me calm and focused on the task at hand.

First, I found a great, local place to take the car to have the work done (http://dayas.com/) They deal in all high end cars and I have heard great, great things about them. It is where the dealership sends all their cars and after talking with my insurance agent, they too know them to be a good place.

After talking with them today, I found the place that is going to do the glass replacement (http://sandersautoglass.com/)

I feel better knowing that I have some good local resources that are used to working on these types of cars and will do and warranty their work. They are replacing the windshield (already in stock and direct from Porsche) on Tuesday and on Monday I take the car in to have them look at the body work, get an estimate to State Farm and then setup an appointment to drop it off to get the work done.

Sorry to hear about the incident but sounds like she'll be back to 100% in no time at all.

Just got back from Daya's. Cost of repair is a little north of $2,000. I did ask them if rather then fixing the bumper and Techart spoiler, if they would be able to replace it with the Factory Aero (like GT3) bumper. They are going to look into doing that instead. I think it would be a little bit higher then the Techart and give me ever so slightly more clearance in the front. They did not promise anything, only they would see if they could get the price to be the same. At this point, they are actually quoting that to State Farm, so lets see what happens.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Good to hear that things seem to be working out.

In terms of clearance, are you sure that the GT3 front bumper will be higher than the set-up you had before (OE bumper plus Techart spoiler)? I've seen both and the GT3 bumper looked pretty low.

^^Joe, yeah I am pretty sure. The Techart lip contours downward as it gets closer to the front wheels, where the OEM Aero kit is more or less straight back, it will give me enough clearance where I would normally scrap just trying to get out of the driveway. At this point, there is no guarantee this will happen, it all depends on what insurance says.
