I purchased Tire/Wheel Insurance with my 09 C2S. My opinion is its worth the money. I have it on my wife's BMW and it has saved us alot of money. 1 rim and 2 tires for free.

As for the P-Car. Had mine in a few weeks ago for its first oil change and they found a nail in the rear tire. My Sales Manager told me that Porsche does not allow/warrant patching so a replacement tire for just a nail hole was the option. She also said that the Tire/Wheel Insurance is on board with Porsche so they will cover a new tire purchase for just a nail hole. Thankfully the nail was small so no damage.

 

The question of value really depends on your chances of needing the warrantee. Had my Boxster for 7 years and, while I replaced a few sets of tires, it was never because of nails holes and such. Never had to replace any wheels. But, car was a weekender and didn't see any track use nor was I prone to running into curbs and I avoid as many pot holes as I can. Have had my 997 for a year with no issues. So for me, I'll take my chances that I won't need to replace $ 1300 worth of tires or wheels due to nails or damage to a wheel. Now if the tire and wheel waranty out lasts the wararntee on the car it might be worth buying. Other wise, I'd might gamble on the fact that you won't need it and save the money to use if you do.

 

I know people drive a very high speed (over 300kms) with plugged tires, no problem at at. Not sure about track day.

 

So the dealer call back today and said they talked to the tire warranty company and it is for purchase at time of car purchase ONLY.

So with < 700mi on the car the tire warranty company won't sell me the warranty

Anyone know of a good tire warranty company?

 

It all depends on the plan offered. I asked my dealer about a tire/wheel warranty when I purchased my car. The one they offered was for a good chunk of money but was limited in time of coverage - it had a lifetime cap on payout that was less than 2x the premium. For me it was not worth it for the small benefit I might gain if I lost lots of tires/wheels and hit the cap. I don't recall the exact figures, but it would be something like a $1300 premium with a max lifetime payout of $2000 (numbers just made up for setting the scale of the issue). For me that was not worth it.
