Rear lights completely unaligned after muffler replacement....??

Sorry if this is in the wrong section of the forum.

But, here's my story. Just a few weeks ago I took the car into the dealership to get the rear brake light bulbs replaced under warranty... and all went as smooth as silk. Even to the point of me being so happy with the level of service I created a post about it.

Well, I took the ride into the Porsche dealership to get the muffler replaced due to the rattle/broken flange and got the car back with the rear lights completely off/misaligned...

like, basically the top of the light was about a half centimeter away from the paint/body and the bottom was completely flush against the paint...and the other side was wayyy the hell off...

now, yes, I'm ****. And to be quite honest...i'm rather proud of it. My house is immaculate and I'm quite well looked after...

BUT, I'm at a loss here though on two aspects of this scenario...

no three...

1. What in the love of F**K happened?
2. Is it a known issue that these lights needs 'fine tuning' when it comes to placement? Are these apparent rubber gromets that susceptible to being warped and or broken?
3. Is it too much to ask to have the lights all lined up all the way around like they were before...am I too ****? gawd tell me i'm not lol

There is no way the lights should have been affected by the muffler replacement. Something happened that shouldn't have. I would be back in a heartbeat to have the light fixture mountings corrected. You are not being **** if the fixtures are obviously not in their correct positions.

apparently the rear bumper had to come off to get at it etc...I wouldnt think the lights had to come off as well...

I totally agree and whats worse about it is...that 'they' seem to be under the impression that 'thats' fine...

thats 'okay'

sure... its just the lights...its just the grommets that need to be replaced and adjusted...

Is that at all normal? I mean I can understand the need for rubber of some sort as otherwise I would think that the plastic lights would eventually crack under time and time again shock...so I mean sure, grommets...but the car has 35thousand kilometers on it...

wtf?

anyways...I just got my oil changed about 1500 kilometers ago and apparently needed to top that up as well...(thats an entirely different thread however) but what the hell... after that many kilometers and doing the electronic check after the change it was fully up...I went away for a week after and then put 1500 k on it thereafter then was in today and the oil was at the bottom on the electro check...

wtf?

lol

I tell ya man...

tell me something good today will ya? I'm havin a hell of a day bro... ugh

Now you're totally confusing me with too much info. Don't know what the oil thing has to do with anything.

Back to the tail lights. There is no need to remove the bumper to replace mufflers. And even if they did remove the bumper cover, there is no reason the light fixtures shouldn't have been re-installed properly. I don't know what you mean about the grommets etc. Perhaps a photo of your concern would help, as your description is not clear.

the rear lights are so easy to adjust. Remove the 2 screws in the engine bay to the left and right next to the lights and pull them towards you. they come right out and you can adjust there position to your liking. I just know this cuz i just changed my out to the full reds.

sorry...your absolutely right. Forget the oil thing all together.

In regards to the grommets. From what I was told was that the grommets, similar to washers allow the lights to sit firmly but have a bit of play as they are rubber as opposed to being simply just firmly tightened against the metal which apparently can make them crack. Personally, I dont know whether to believe them or not.

I went down and had a look at the lights like Gomez suggested and there are no grommets or rubbers or washers or anything. Just simply what appear to be screws with washers and they are just tight as hell on there. I dunno, i'm gonna have to take it back next week because they ordered the wrong side of the muffler...(yeah...pfft....gawd) and then I'll ***** about it till its right.

Honestly, its almost like someone whacked the rear end bumper there and now the lights are all outta whack themselves...

ugh...

anyways...thanks, I just needed to vent and we'll see what happens I guess.

Hey Dally,

you really should post a picture to show us how the rear lights are misaligned.

without a picture, we are not sure if it is the lights or your eyes that are misaligned...

(sorry, the joke is to lighten you up a bit)
