i understand that the PDK is in a different world from a technology perspective. It appears to be largely software driven, predicting (almost behaviorally) what the driver will do and seems to emulate what a standard driver would do with downshifts into corners etc. It's also much faster in shifting and allows for skipping gears on downshift without risk of damage.

It's an automatic that you can bypass and hold shifts, shift yourself, etc., etc. If this is the case, then I'd feel the same way about it as I do the tip. Taking control of the automatic transmission feels like forplay without the sex...

Just a follow up. I've enjoyed reading all of the responses to my OP so thanks for the masive participation.

Again, PDK is amazing technology and will definitely be The Right choice for many. It's especialy great for those who previously liked Tiptronic; now you can have your cake and eat it to.

The PDK, even in non-sport mode, will only drop an average of 400 rpm's b/w shifts under hard acceleration......amazing! Driving my '07 S in sport mode the fastest shifts I can manage so far drop the rpm's about double that amount.

Still, I am so much happier with my '07 manual than I was with my '09 PDK, but the fact that the '07 is an S with Sports Chrono and the '09 was a Base model without Sports Chono Plus (which many feel is crucial with PDK) may play some factor in this.

Generally speaking though I am really happy to be rowing my own gears again.

I'm also really enjoying the sound on the non-DFI engine and even the steering feels more connected and precise reminding me of the steering feel of my '05 Boxster S.............more feedback.

I just got back from an early Saturday morning, 30 mile back road blast and my "new" car is just So Much Fun!!!

One week after doing the trade, the financial hit I took is already a distant memory and the pain has faded.

Thanks again to all who weighed in and if you already own a PDK and are enjoying it or end up buying a PDK equipped car........good on ya! Options are good and the PDK isn't a bad one.....just not the right tranny for me

I had one for two days when mine was in for service. Loved it the first day, bored the second. I would never order one after that 'test'. You did the right thing.

Exactly! The novelty just wore off for me too quickly. I absolutely freaked over PDK during the 25 mile, backroad test drive, went back to the dealership and did the deal and then within 2-3 weeks was regretting it, but keeping those regrets to myself.......still in a semi-state of denial.

After 2-3 months I was still in denial and trying to sell myself and those around me on PDK.......after 6 months I faced the facts.

Once the novelty wore off I felt I was left with a detached experience.

I'll reiterate that I also really prefer the more sonorous and soulful sound of the pre-DFI engines.

Based on this experience I'm wondering if my next "new" Carrera will be a 993!

In about a year my 07 C2S ought to be worth about what a nice, clean, low mileage 993 sells for!.........
