Wheel Dilemma

I'm looking to replace the lobster forks on my "new to me" 997 C4S Cab in triple black. I really do not like the look of the wheel at all. My favorite wheel by far is either the HRE P40's or Champion RS171's. HOWEVER, budget kind of keeps those two out of my reach if I'm looking at buying brand new.

So here's my dillema. If it were you, would you look into buying a brand new set of O.Z. Ultraleggera HLT's (which I could get fitted immediately) or keep looking for a used set of the HRE's or Champion's (and in the last few weeks, haven't noticed any for sale)? I actually somewhat like the look of the O.Z.'s but it seems like most here feel the HRE or Champion wheels are "better" (not sure if it's because of the good HRE/Champion reputation, they are built better, just more traditional for the 997, etc.).

Thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I would wait and get what you want, the HRE's and Champion's wheels are available from time to time, for some good deals.

Keep looking in the classifieds on this site.

I couldn't agree more about the lobster forks...ugliest wheels ever made.

I just got some HREs and have to say it's worth the wait to get them if you can.

I would wait . The P40 and Rs171 are great wheels . I kinda favor the Rs171 for the cab . I found one on a Turbo cab . I don't like the black wheel --prefer silver but the fir and finish are real nice.

The P40 are real nice too . I kinda prefer the spoke wheel on the cab though (tough choice) and the convex center of the RS171 is quite nice . You did not mention the P43 so I'm just sticking with your two choices.

Gorgeous car yrralis, but you should have driven around the block and used your brakes before snapping the photo. Your rotors are discolored from washing the car.

The OZ you mention is a nice looking wheel, is lighter than just about anything it competes with at 21.6 and 24.8 lbs for the 19" and won't set you back $ 5-6,000. While I agree with the comments about the HRE P40's and the Champion's which are both great looking wheels, you're taking a chance buying a used set for the same money, or maybe more than the OZ's you're looking at would be new and the wheels maybe somewhat less than perfect. No warrantee either if you have a problem with them. Besides, if you get the OZ's you don't have to wait to enjoy them like you might if you wait until you can muster up the courage, and $$'s, to spend 6 large on a set of wheels. ( I don't think I could muster up that much courage myself and I don't dislike the Lobster forks enough to try.) Whatever you do, let us know and send pics.

That's not my car . LOL . I just searched to find black cabs with those wheels. I have C20's on mine but I would not select them for a cab.

The vendors here should be able to give you some options. Just like c2mojo noted, you can also take a look at CCW, reasonably priced wheels and great quality.

This makes alot of sense to me and really puts my shopping into perspective. I'm definitely leaning towards the O.Z.'s. Brand new, the HRE's and Champion's are $5-$6K as you stated and that is way, way more than I want to spend. The O.Z.'s should be under $2K and I have the security of knowing they are brand new. Only problem now is that the 19" front O.Z. in Silver is out of stock at TireRack until August

Has anyone seen a C4S with Gt3 Rs wheels ? I'm just curious if anyone has done it .

They look fantastic on a Turbo , fit well , and even though they aren't forged weigh the same as the stock Turbo wheel and may even be cheaper than the OZ because they are OEM . Usually one sees them painted and tricked out on the GT3RS but in silver they are quite simple .

yrrallis1 - Wow, didn't even think about the GT3RS wheel. Looks great and actually looks similar to the O.Z. I was looking at. Might have to check into them.

phil_m - Yeah, actually Gomez's thread is what got me into looking at the O.Z.'s. Just not feeling the black on my Cab. Coupe yes.
