Thoughts on the 2010 Gt3 and why it remained pure
#31
=tejoe;2418187]If Autoweek and Automobile Mag are correct, the 2010 GT3 engine/tranny combo are for the homogulation requirements of the racing circuits, plus there would have been no more bang for the buck putting a DFI in this car.
That's sounds pretty "pure" to me if the origin of all these cars come from racing .
[As far as the efficacy of PDK, Porsche was pretty damn successful running it in the 956 and 962 25 years ago, so it isn't just a new untested toy as some on other threads like to postulate.
One can not compare a mass produced production car with a select project vehicle of the past to draw a conclusion . This is a straw man argument --where the conclusion is drawn on an invalid argument .

No matter what .. even if I don't get the Gt3 .
I shamelessly admit that I want it .

Has anyone taken a peek at the 2010 Gt3 ? if not see this first . My comments after ,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z58QD8zS0Ls
I am amazed at this car !!! They kept PDK and DFI out . That surprised me . The manual transmission and power upgrade as well as the aerodynamic changes hint at such a drivers' car . Plus this car looks like it could be driven daily or certainly as a weekend vehicle .
I wonder if PDK was more geared towards comfort and convenience . Fast paced luxury . I scratch my head if DFi was a means of generating a Hp bump with fuel efficiency, street use and cost in mind.
Is the new Gt3 the last pure Porsche ?
Does the omission PDK and DfI change anyones perception of those items ?

When / If --I get the Gt3 and you are ever in South Florida --after all it gets cold in canada maybe you'll take a look at the two cars and relate to this desire to have both . Now I have to wrestle with the impractical aspects of those car emotions to figure out if this really will work .

The weather in Vancouver is mild, infact a good part of the US is colder then this part of Canada.
Now rain, we get a lot more then we know what to do with, so we bottle it and send it south and charge $5 for something that comes from our taps.
I will look you up if I make it down that way, although your bugs are huge down there.

Dadio--Is the new Gt3 the last pure Porsche ?
Does the omission PDK and DfI change anyones perception of those items ?Can you say " improved profit margins " ???? All the extras you mention cost money. Leave 'em out, pull parts from the parts bin, convince the buyer he's Steve McQueen and you've got the makings of what Wall Street calls a money machine. Porsche is better than Apple when it comes to marketing and the GT3 is Porsche's equivalent of the IPhone.
Both cars had cost in mind .
1) The 997.2S
a) offers pdk and all sorts of gadgetry at a high premium . These cars are priced at 100K + optioned up . One can point at the bad economy for the sales slump and we'll never know . At 130K the Gt3 is actually a bargain as it is priced in C4S territory and beneath the Turbo .
b) fuel economy - DFI makes a "green" and somewhat more politically correct Porsche . I'm all in favor of the environment but the bill placed into research and development is foisted onto the consumer .
The gt3
1) Cost savings avoided a full engine redesign but they still managed to build a faster and better handling car than the first gen . Plus Porsche is apparently not fearing a 997.2S track victory over the Gt3 . In short .. they saved money but still delivered a top notch product .
The gt3 .. is IMO .. the car to get.
Plus with the lift and some of these comfort features which don't seem to weigh enough to draw concern ... it's become more street driveable too.

I am not rushing nor guaranteeing that I will get it but I am seriously thinking it over .
Here's the problem .. beyond the expense which obvously is high .
1) Fitting two cars in my garage poses an obstacle and parking it outside would drive me nuts.
2) Do I really need 4 cars? Three is ideal . M3 is a great DD . Honda Si is worry free. I am forever with the Turbo so that is staying no matter what.
Do I have space in my home and heart for a 2010 Gt3 ? Hell yeah !! But where ? That's the question .

Honda to the driveway...solved...go see your dealer...call and thank me when you are done!

LOl Mike .
Talked about this a lot tonight . First I want to see how long it takes to get one with the one or two dealerships I trust most. I've read so many posts on ordered cars and those who wait with depositis and it has to be a smooth and fun experience.
That's why i went today .., to talk and find out . It's not a rush thing because every day that i don't have it I stil have my current cars and I am happy with them.
It's that awesome to see the Gt3 in motion and it probably is even better in person. I even like it in white with those blinking LED's , that growling exhaust .
We'll see how it goes .
Obviously some who ordered thse cars will get the first launch cars and hopefully their posts will shed insight .
I'm glad to see that despite the variety of opinions on Dfi and PDK --one common ground is shared .. I think we all love the car.
That's a good thing.

Some of the car collections posted on 6speed are just amazing
It's a stretch for me to buy any of these cars but i do value and respect the quality . I will dip my toes slowly with the Gt3 and see how it goes . It is so beautiful though.

Here is a link to the FAQ: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/faq.php
You will find information on how to use Vbulletins ignore feature. Surprised you were not able to figure this out on your own.

You know with a GT3 guys like Mike (and myself) will expect you to take it to the track.

Larry,
sell the M3 and use the TT as daily driver.
problem with owning both TT and GT3 is that their interior is identical (except the new PCM, bluetooth), so you may feel bored sitting inside. That's why I'm skipping this GT3 and wait for next gen if I will keep my club coupe.
