I've noticed some burning smell after driving the car, and dealer told me this is normal during the break-in period. The smell seems more intense than other new cars I've owned, almost smells like burned oil.

Is this normal? How long is this burning smell going to last?

Mine still stinks after 400 miles....

 

there is a cosmoline coating on the engine/tranny that will eventually burn off..

 

My '07 had burning smell for a while. My '09 doesn't seem to have that cosmoline coating at all. Hmmmm....

 

So cosmoline smells would like burned oil?

yes, and if there are no leaks and your oil level is normal that is what it is

 

I noticed that too but at 8xx miles I've forgotten about it and haven't smelled that in the last couple weeks.

 

I have the same "new car smell" on mine..1300 miles. I actually kinda like it!

 

I'm at 22K miles and I still got the smell.
