15000 mi Service
#3
I started a thread about this for the same reason. If you havea a 997, the interval is 20k or one year, by the way. Even in Greenwich CT the charge is $700. In PA, less than $600. Inpection, oil change, cabin filter, air filter. Rusnak is a ripoff.

For 615$ plus tax at my independent I got oil service, brake fluid, coolant and in cabin filter change as well as battery service. Compare that to what the dealer will actually do and decide for yourself.

18 months ago I got charged about $800 at local dealer for 20k "service", not including brake fluid flush (which they wanted another $200 for). When I called local independent shop, they quoted $265 for same. Guess where I'm going for the 20k service on my current car. Actually, I did my own intermediate oil change last year, and will likely do same at 20k, plus replace cabin and air filters myself.

The steeler charges a lot of money to look around the car to find other things to charge us for. Do note that the engine and cabin air filters are $150, discounted, for OEM Porsche parts. An oil change is $150, even if you get charged only $20 for labor. In the end, these costs aren't much to maintain the car.
I guess replacing the belt or the spark plugs costs some bucks. Funny, I saw the serpentine belt only costs $30.

you guys are all getting ripped off it seems. Stop taking your cars to the dealership. Unless your car has a major problem, or sometimes a computer problem, any independent shop can perform the same task. However, you may want to go to a shop that specializes in Pcars only because they are more likely to have the diagnostic tools to reset service reminder lights.
I own several repair shops and do my own work, I would work on Porsches if they came in (mostly regular cars, sometimes something cooler, LOL), but because I dont see so many Porsches I dont opt to buy another $25k scanner, specific to Porsche. It just doesn't pay for me. By the way, on my own car I have done 3 oil changes so far and purchased a BMC lifetime air filter (great buy, $112) and the car has 15k. I change it every 5k and clean the filter every so often. The oil filter is $20 at the dealer and oil is oil.

No warranty issues with indi service of the car? Do you need to demonstrate that you've at least done the recommended maintenence? I guess if you change the engine air filter, that is basically the only thing other than oil before the 4 years expires.

FYI, there is a recent TSB out that allows dealers to flush the brake fluid under warranty on 997's. Air can get trapped in the clutch slave cylinder, and the TSB details a specific procedure to remove this air during the flush process. I was having problems with a sticky clutch pedal at DE's, and this helped. I typically flush the brake fluid myself using a Motive bleeder, but with the TSB, you can get a freebie.

Here's a bit more info I dug up from www.mycarstats.com . Unsure if this relates to the tech info 3001.
