C4S vs C2S opinions needed
Getting close to pullin the trigger on my 1st 911, a 6 spd cab & wanted some feedback on the driving differences. Im leaning towards the 4 cause I love the rear , but dont want to lose out on the fun factor. lookin @ 06-09.
Ill be drivin for fun, mainly weekends, socal canyons, to the beach etc.
Any long term reliabilty/cost issues w/ all wheel drive?

Lots of threads on this topic but if you're looking for a weekend car, I'd get the 2S. I kind of wish I had, as I don't drive the 4S in the snow or rain, though I admit the rear looks gorgeous.

Oh, it's a great car, don't get me wrong, but I had thought I'd be driving it more in rain/snow before I got it. I love the rear end width and the planted, stable handling but I'd get the C2S if I could do it again for the lighter front end and slightly looser handling of a rear drive, not to mention the cost savings.

Your last statement is absolutely true. Everyone (mostly C2 owners) will argue numbers and the width difference isn't that large on that basis, but the visual impact of the width is greater than the dimension change suggests.

Get the car YOU like. You really will never need the all wheels drive in the 4S living in SoCal but if you like the wider rear there is nothing wrong with that. IF you ever plan on doing auto cross or track driving then get the 2S.

Thx for the replies.
Im not concerned about rain or snow driving. Socal.
I just dont want to get the 4, which Im leaning towards, & regretting it because of a major difference in handling in the canyons.
On the same note, I dont want to get the 2 and have it get away from me, being my first 911.
Seems the fat *** just might be the deciding factor

Sounds like you need to do an extended test drive in each, back to back. Otherwise you'll always regret your decision.

Chris of Drivers Republic mentioned the following on 911 RWD vs 911 AWD in his video while evaluating Targa 4s vs Merc sl 63 amg vs Aston martin vantage conv
Traction differences around corners not much difference between RWD and AWD 911's due to the heavy rear so 911 RWD provides sufficent traction unlike other front/mid engine RWD cars
The differene he feels was the satbility of 911-AWD at highway speeds where it tracks straight where as the RWD 911 tends to wander a bit at highway speeds due to light front end and was of the opinion that 911 AWD may be a better road car
