Factory carbon fiber left and right top dash board moldings cracked
3 year 11 month old 06 Cab S
Over the past 3 + years, I have replaced the factory carbon fiber left and right top dash board moldings 6 times each because they crack in the south Florida heat
What do I do with the cracked carbon fiber left and right dash board moldings now that the car will be out of warranty in a month? The part only lasts about 6 months before it starts lifting and bubbles up.
The part is $1100 each

I empathize with the OP but I never understood why people spec a piece of synthetic material that is brittle, easily scratched, and bound to crack... essentially a plastic looking veneer.

Well it does look like carbon fiber and at some point it was part of the carbon fiber package (not any more) and one would think that something on a Porsche would not be "a piece of synthetic material that is brittle, easily scratched, and bound to crack"

what did you replace it with when pulled off. There are grouved channels on my 997 where it fits in. It looks awkward with nothing there.

That is why I stayed away from carbon fibre when I got my 997 (I had it on my 996 C4S) and got a full leather interior instead which, hopefully, will last.

I had a lot of factory CF in my 06 Cayman and none of it deteriorated or delaminated over the 3 years I owned the car. However, a Techart steering wheel ($3K) w/ a carbon fiber top wrap came apart at the seams within one month in the S. Florida heat. The problem w/ the dash pieces is that they are very thin and lightly laminated, are glued to the underlying trim, and are in the worst possible place where temps can easily reach 120F. A possible solution is to have the CF dash trim pieces laminated in place w/ epoxy by a professional.

But that is what CF is... "synthetic material that is brittle, easily scratched, and bound to crack".

I know this is an illegal solution, but imo it is completely necessary for this florida heat.
I just tinted my windows 20% on the sides and back, and 50% on the winshield. Makes a substantial difference in interior heat

Great solution, unrelated to my problem, I have actually been thinking about it, but I don't think it will help this situation. The main problem is that it's a CAB and the sun bakes on the dash when the roof is down. An the roof is down most of the time.
