I believe mine was produced 12/06

Excellent point, thank you. Since the engine is now out and being replaced wouldn't they have to now align it?

If it isn't contamination the only thing I may consider is the motor mounts. If those are OK its a clutch issue. I drove a brand new 2009 Shelby GT500 and the car had it pretty bad. A lot of the time on a new car the chatter will somewhat diminish. When I bought a new 01 M3 at the time I test drove another car that maybe I would switch into..the clutch chattered so bad I passed. Has it done it since new?

I would switch out the clutch as this isn't a warrantable item anyway and get a new flywheel not one resurfaced and see how it goes. This would be a great time to do a LWFW.
Yes since new; Porsche replaced the FW and clutch at 5000 miles with no improvement. My lease ends early Jan so I'm not going to spend more $ on the car for just 6 more mos but it is tempting none the less.

Pics

Two pics, one from today's visit to the dealership and one before the engine meltdown (and no, I don't drive around with the spoiler up , it was done for the picture). I did not realize that the entire bumper and side covers needed to be removed; I guess it's to clear the exhaust? I asked to see my old engine but it was gone already. I mentioned the clutch again and my SA assured me he would further investigate a potential cause other than the usual suspects so to speak...

Hey 500, thought I would get you an update, my engine arrived yesterday....They are booking me in week after next. I guess they have x2 other engine replacements to do on cars that aren't driveable and asked me if I could wait an extra week....I am not overly inconvenienced so I said ok, would like to see another p-car driver get on the road as I am still enjoying mine.

Good to hear it's in.

How come the dealership did not have to tear down your engine like they were instructed to do on mine? Apparently internal inspection is part of standard Porsche protocol prior to replacing an engine.

Wow, that's amazing Porsche gave the ok to replace an engine based just on a bore scope and they let you continue to drive the car, I'm really suprised they weren't worried about further damage to the engine or related components. My dealership told me Porsche North America specifically wants the suspect parts/area to be thoroughly and physically examined requiring disassembly with the findings emailed to them before anything was to be done.
Wonder how this can vary when it comes to replacing an engine; can anyone with specific knowledge chime in here?

Standard C2S set up...I know they look enormous in the picture, probably because the bumper is off.

The wider 305's are standard on C4S's (they have 8.5 inch rims), the C2S's (even with the turbo wheel option) like mine have 295's with 8 inch rims in the rear.

Actually they are 11" wide in the rear, the fronts are 8" with the turbos coming in at 8.5".

Correct, thanks for catching that...but the C4S fronts are also 8.5 just like the turbo, or so I thought?
