997S gauges
Does anyone know why the 997S gauges change color under different lighting?
I have searched everywhere but can not find it. In full daylight the gauges are almost white. Then as the sun goes down the gauges turn grey. At dusk the gauges turn a dark grey and with the instrument lighting on the effect is just stunning. At night the gauges are black. The gauge design is truly a work of art.

The gauges are nice in silver, the change in colour that you are seeing is called metamerism.

Naturally it's a matter of personal preference, but after three years w/ my Cayman S alu/gray dials I specified the black dials on my C2S and have no regrets. Porsche should allow all the S models the black dial option.

My car has the "standard" silver faces on the instrument cluster.
After a few days at the track, I think that black faces would be better. You want to see where that tach is out of your peripheral vision. Red needles on black faces offer a better contrast and hence bettern visibility than red needles on silver.

The S gauges don't actually turn color but appear black at night and are silver , look's like white to me, during the day. I very much prefer the look of the silver gauges during the day. Much easier to read. The blacked out look at night is easier on the eyes and I would have paid extra to get the silver gauge faces had they not come standard in my car.

I believe FVD Brombacher have them. Are you planning to change it? If so lets us know how it went. I am also toying on that idea.
