My new 2008 C4S with Pics

Hey Guys,

Just got a new 2008 C4S with Aero Kit & Sport Exhaust. I recently traded my 2007 M5. The Porsche definitely handles much better than any other car, however when it comes to speed, it just doesn't have that "oumph" the M5 had when I would gun it. Recently I got the GAIC ECU, however after 2 weeks, I removed it, I really didn't notice much improvement. Not worth the $$$.
So my question would be, what do you suggest to increase power. I wanted to get the Plenum, and an intake but I have heard it does not give you nearly as much power as stated by the vendors. I have also heard the Softtronic ECU works very well.
Suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

Beautiful car with the aero kit. I'm right there with you - not a lot of oomph at low rpms with the 997 in my opinion. I've driven japanese cars that are more responsive when you step on the throttle. I'm interested in hearing what others have to say about improving throttle responsiveness.

Intake. flash, exhaust will take the mid range unless you go the supercharger route --I woudn't. The 997S is not a drag race car . It's made for carving through twisty roads .

BTW --beautiful car . Love the black/aerokit.

Beautiful car. Aero kit really makes that car stand out.

I do have the IPD plenum on my car but I couldn't tell you if it made a difference as the original owner put it on. He did say he felt there was a difference (but than again it could be because he just put some $$$ on it). Runs about $1,000 and is a pretty easy DIY. IPD states a 27 HP gain and a 21 Torque gain on the 3.8 Liter engine (S): http://www.roadsportsupply.com/IPD_Plenums_Porsche.html

Maybe muffler, header, and cats. The original owner of my car is sending up the AWE Exhaust set-up to me (muffler, header, cats) that is supposed to be good for another 39 crank HP and 31 crank TQ (12hp and 11TQ for the non S models):

Plenum is going to be like the software flash, some find it adds power and others don't. Do a search for Plenum, there is a large thread that has a lot of input, you be the judge.

As for power, I have a lot of different mods, and I find the High Flow Cats, and LWFW add the most punch.

As Larry pointed out, SC is an option, but it is pricey. If you really want the power, go buy a 997TT and that out to crave your desire for boost, the 997S is a quick car, but the power is very linear and won't give you the same feel as a forced induction car will.

Nice new car.

princealidds, any money spent in order to gain power in these engines is not worth it, they come very well tuned from factory. Anyway, the only way to gain real power on these units is the use of forced induction, but again, as you might know it´s a risk regarding reliability.

The Positive Displacement supercharger will provide you with a tidal wave of torque all the way through the power band.

If you have any questions, please don't hold back!
Josh, can you SC 997S keep up with a stock 996TT ? I remember few years a magazine tested the EVOMS 997S SC and compared it to the 996TT stating that it didn´t had the grunt of the TT and couldn´t keep up with it.

Can't say if I belive it or not. Only posting what the vendors state on their website (and the dyno results they show do seem to be realistic and realworld).

Here's the real truth. The car I bought already had the plenum on the car and the price that I paid for the car didn't reflect this addition (seller was smart enough to know that he would never get his money back on any aftermarket mods). Would I have dropped $1,000 on this mod based on what IPD states? Not sure. Like NorthVan says, lots of opinions on this mod. Since it's already on the car when I bought it, I'll keep it.

For the AWE exhaust system, the seller took it off the car when he was going to sell it to a buyer as the buyer didn't like the sound. Buyer couldn't get financing and I came along and bought the car. Since I bought the car and drove it 600 miles home, I didn't have room to bring it back with me. Seller sold me the whole system (about $4,200 worth) for $1,500 and is in the process of shipping it to me. Would I have paid $4,200 for the system? Most likely not. However for $1,500, yeah, I don't care how much hp/tq it will add. The sound alone is worth th $1,500 to me.

So to answer your original question, do I believe those hp/tq numbers? Well, they do post dyno results. I guess they can answer your questions here as they are the sellers. However, for a total of $1,500 (plus whatever it's going to cost me to install the AWE) for about $5,200 worth of plenum, muffler, headers, cats, I'll take it and whatever hp/tq gains come from it.

As long as you´re happy with your choice, that´s what counts, and I understand your decisions very well.

Anyway, I just don´t understand how in the XXI century, there are still companies who still advertise a 300000Hp gain with an air filter and mufler . We should all be with our eyes wide open and well informed in order to get some respect from these cheap vendors who keep trying to put their hands in our pocket with false and ridicules claims.

Just take a look of what Porsche has to do in order to gain 25 REAL hp, with their X51 package. Internal engine mods are need to make it happen, but with these cheap vendors, just drop a mufler, some lousy cats , ECU, some other miracles mods and BANG, there you are, 50 fresh hp gain. I wonder why these magicians are not working for Porsche and use their miracles power gain formulas
gime a break ...

Thanks for all the info. guys I definitely agree with you guys, Porsche has really made good use of every hp out of this car, getting anything more is hard (without Supercharger...). At this point I'll hold off on any future mods & learn how to drive this car.... Thanks again.

princealidds - look for a nice twisty road and believe me, you will never look back at your M5. This weekend I put about 350 miles (all day sunday) just driving through some twisties, so much fun
