Question on oil pressure gauge / behavior

Okay, so I have my new 07 C2S which I had shipped from the dealer (so I received no orientation whatsoever) and now I have a question. When driving to work this morning, I noticed the oil pressure pegged at 5 during normal acceleration. When I backed off the throttle it would drop to 2 or 3. It seems odd to me that any gauge in the car would peg. Is this normal until the engine heats up due to higher viscosity? The last oil change (which was the first as it only has 5K miles) was 0W30 mobile 1.

I don't have access to my manual at the moment and this question has been bugging me all day.

Oil pressure relief valve working as designed......unless Porsche has managed to make that electronic as well!

Wheh! Thanks guys. I haven't slept much since I got the car (too excited) so I was dead tired yesterday and a bit more paranoid about the car than I would normally be.

All is normal but I think the recommended oil is 0/40 not 0/30. Probably not a big deal but I tend to follow Porsche recommendations.

Enjoy your new 'ride'; try not to smile too much (creates unwanted wrinkles) when driving it.

Yeah, recommended oil is SAE 0W-40, 5W-40, or 5W-50.

I'm paying more attention to this now. Seems like it takes 4 to 5 minutes to drop down to 2. Hard to say as the first few minutes are on back roads then I'm on the freeway at speed. Thanks for the comments on oil viscosity, guys. I'll get 'er right on the next oil change.

You'll drive yourself nuts (as I did since I was accustomed to real guages on a couple of other cars) if you pay much attention to this. After a couple of years and "don't worrys" from 3 Porsche techs and a great tuner I finally accept that there is no "correct". Supposedly, and I say that advisedly, the only time to get concerned is if you have nothing.

Spot on. This is not a Porsche specific question and it's the generally same answer no matter what type of car we're talking about.
