997 2S Gen 1 Mild Track Alignment
Hey Guys:
I apologize if I missed a thread somewhere on this topic, but a friend is attending a PCA DE down at CMP at the end of August. I was wondering if anyone could recommend an aggressive street or mild track alignment for his car. If the 997's are anything like the 987's, Porsche alignment specs dial in understeer, which isn't too good on the track . Also the stock alignment is brutal on the outside edge of the front tires.
I imagine more front camber is needed, but was wondering if anyone would/could make a total car setup recommendation.
Thanks in advance...

Honestly, you can't get the answers here in a forum. You have to take your car to the best Porsche set-up shop in your area (we are blessed with 3 in mine, Dan Jacobs, Auto Associates, and Farnbacher Loles). Let them understand what you want from your alignment and they will give you the best they can. In general, you will max out at about 8/10 of 1% of negative camber.
If you plan to stick with DE, then you must swap out your front control arms for 996 GT3 Cup versions. Then w/ 3mm shims you can get -2.3 degrees, which is a good street / DE setting. You can source the parts from Suncoast or Tarett (two places I know of that have them in stock - about $1200 for the set for Xenon cars).

Thanks Ron...
Then the 997 is much like the 987 in that regard. Max out the stock front camber at .8 - 1 degree negative. Frequent track time requires more negative camber, which can only be achieved with control arms or camber plates.
Appreciate the feedback sir...that's exactly what I was looking for...he'll be running his car over to a good shop here in Raleigh. I just wanted to arm him with some info before he goes...

I would take it to a good shop or your Porsche dealer and ask them to do an aggressive/track factory alignment. I have my car lowered to ROW height with the factory track alignment and I do about 12 track days a year and DD my car.
