Thumbs up For track days...

Do you guys have 'track' tires and other components that you swap in specifically for track days? I've been thinking of getting tires that I use for only the track.

I have a 2 different set of track wheels with R Comps (19" with MPSC, and 18" with Yokohama 048 soon to be Hoosier R6's).

I also swap brake pads for Pagid Yellow pads.

Cool.

Do you find you get better laps with the 18''s over the 19''s??

I'd be curious on lap times, But i'm sure the motivation is less weight and cheaper/greater tire selection.

I am quicker with the 18", only because the wheels are very light weight compared to the set of OEM wheels that I used last year. The lighter weight wheels has reduced the unsprung weight.

I still think the 19" wheels are a better fit for the car then the 18" and the tire choice is actually better for the 19" IMO. I am running a 235/40/18 and 315/30/18 and they are still smaller then the 19" OEM set up. Only if I went with Slicks would the 18" have a better selection.

NewSong,
What tires are on your car now? Also, what is your experience on the track?

I just have OEM wheels and tires right now, so I'm looking for 'track' tires for when I go next month.

My track experience is limited to my other two rides (08' Z06, and E92 M3). I found that I also got better times when I had "more tire" and "less wheel". I run 18''s on the M3.

7Speed is infamous around these parts
I use 19" Michellin Pilot's Sport Cup on my 09 C4S PDK just for track days and those are excellent.

You should be running 255-35-18 up front. This will go better with the 315 out back. I use to run this sizing.

Will that fit with my lowered car?

The Hoosiers that I am running next are 245/40/18 in the front.

My friend has a dedicated wheel + tire set up for the track. He has an EVO IX and all he did was get slightly wider wheels and yet he is faster than most people out there. His only other "mods" are harnesses and a lower seat bracket. Once he gets home he switches back to his stock BBS wheels, although he's given up tracking his car for tracking his bike.

Newsong, when did you get a Vette or an M3? I know you from E90post (Kampfer).

Dude, good to see you here. I was kind of bummed that I decided to leave E90Post because I did meet some cool people there. I just can't stand the place anymore, maybe I'll come back, but I doubt it. The kiddy street race stories, fanboyism, and lack of care on the part of the administrators is ridiculous. It really brings the forum (and brand) down in my opinion.

haha. I've always had a Vette, M3, and recently got the 997S. I actually never owned a Ford Focus. I only put that in my sig at E90 because I felt people would just bring up "my cars" during debates as a way to prove my "bias" or judge me in some trivial way. So I said, "Hey why not just pretend I have a cheap bucket?"

It worked pretty well.
