Price of the X51 powerkit for the 997.1's?
#16
According to some of these tuners the whole X51 setup minus the heads but with 100 cell count cats the car was pushing 390hp. You will need software as the X51 intake manifold gets rid of the dual manifold setup of the stock car. There are some tuners who already have X51 tunes that would work with the larger throttle body as well as the intake manifold.
IanUK from Manchester has done quite a bit of research on this as well, but he sounds like he isn't going to do it as he is going the GT3 route or TT I believe.
I'm holding on to what I have by the skin of my teeth..so no new car for awhile. Would love to go down this route.

I feel that if one is going to upgrade with the X51 he's ought to do the complete setup and since it is an OEM kit it probably should have been an ordered car . Porsche does place the X51 through some extensive testing in all climates and conditions . It also makes sense that Hp claims are going to be conservative .
The aftermaket is the main competition and theres a variety of choices at all types of price levels . I picked one and have no idea if the the fastest or not but I liked several things with this :
1) The Tubi exhaust has such a beautiful fit and finish . I also happen to love the raspy sound .
2) The F77 Carbon intake is so beautiful taht I even continued the carbon fiber legacy with mt Turbo opting for the Werks 1 .
3) We can split hairs over whose Ecu works the best but mine was done at Evoms and I loved it .
This is the video clip that i stared at for days , over and over and i just had to get get this for my car.

Jason off the top of my head..the intake is $1100, throttle body $250 and the manifolds as a pair were $800 I believe. You also have to get some of the other associated parts such as gaskets, new bolts, tank venting lines as well as a new intake distribution tube (plenum) so around $3k. I got a quote at Suncoast Porsche for $10k but it included the heads, which I didn't want to get. I talked to a few tuners in Europe who according to them the heads weren't worth the expenditure. When you consider the fact that the heads on the car now are good for an engine to make 93hp/litre at only 7krpm shows you how good the stock heads are.

I am not in a hurry to change out my heads but the other stuff is interesting. Now that my suspension is mostly sorted out I will probably do a few more power or power related mods. While, I do not believe there is a lot of power to be had with these bolt ons I dont think anyone can deny the obvious benefits of a freer flowing engine and great throttle response. Not to mention better gas mileage.
My only real power mod is the full GMG 997 WC center exit exhaust with HJC 200 Cell Cats. I am going to talk to GMG about the X51 intake, manifolds, and throttle body and see what they tell me about software. I imagine GIAC could produce something descent. They also have Dyno right their at their facility so I could get the install and tuning done on site. I am pretty excited about this now the more I think about it!
Oh and PS: I really need to get a vid of my WC exhaust from GMG... I swear it puts all others to shame!

You can buy portions of the X51 kit and help the car breathe and cool a bit bitter. They're available a la carte:
- X51Carbon air intake with dual openings
- X51 Headers
- X51 Third Radiator Kit

The wonderful world of ebay

The obvious benefit here being that you could potentially get some of your money back on your original engine if its low miles and can get it sold....

Dave I don't have pics but it will fit under the bonnet of the Boxster. Thats one of the most popular swaps into the Boxster/Cayman, a swap of the X51 3.8 into these light weight cars.
