Procedures to bring your car to Canada???

Hey Ed,
what year were you in Toronto? I did Med school at U of T from 1989 to 1993.
Weather is more extreme in Toronto, hot in summer, very cold in winter. I remembered with wind chills temp. could go down to -30 degree celcius or worse. When I was walking around downtown, I had to cover everything and just expose my eyes.
Also, more traffic congestions in Toronto. A lot more people use public transit and subways there.
@sin911,
good luck in Toronto. If you like busier cities you will love it.
I have a doctor friend that drives a C2 there, but also has another winter car.

DRL activate - importing US to Canada '06 Carrera 4s
I would really appreciate it if the step(s) could be posted for activating the DRL (daytime running lights) on a 2006 C4s coupe. The previous comments describe following a DRL activation process in the owners manual. (which I don't have.) My car has the sports chrono option, so I should be able to do it without having to install a physical mod.
I am in the process of importing my car to Vancouver, BC, Canada from San Diego, California.
Also; I am aware that there is a simple process to change the digital gauge from miles to km's but I need that information too please.

Miles per hour to Metric - Digital Display conversion
I managed to find this information for MPH to Metric;
Digital MPH display can be changed to metric units by the following:
this is using the **** to the upper right of the instruments...looks like a clock face on it.
With the ignition on, hold adjustment **** to the left for ~5 seconds.
this will allow the units to change from miles to kilometers units.
this also changes the odometer readings

DRL activation
When importing a P-car from US to Can you have to follow a myriad of steps;
Two of the requirements are activating the DRL's and having the digital gauge readout changed from Miles per hour to Kilometers.

Are those just it? And you can keep the car in Canada 365 days of the year without any problems?

DRL activation & the Sports Chrono Package PLUS
I have dug up some more info for activation of DRL;
The Sport Chrono Package PLUS includes a personal memory function in the PCM, there is an Individual Memory selection which includes a setting for activating the DRL.
I have found a lot of postings and procedures for installing physical mod's on the 997 to have DRL's, but with the sports chrono package plus it can be done with just an adjustment of the PCM settings.

Is the job that good to make this move? I realize that Miami has its ups and downs but it does offer a great bang for the buck (weather, climate, 2 hrs from NYC for cultural activities . Plus the beautiful ladies of South Florida Vs the Maple Leafs of Toronto? You decide .
Plus you can't even take the car as a daily driver without so many obstacles making that an additional cost aspect of a job . It's more expensive to live there and taxes are higher -- and its real cold !!!
No Bikinis , No Porsche . Nice place to see .. but everyday plus job ?
I happen to like Hockey though.

Those 4 cold days we had were enough of a reminder .
There's plenty of time before you leave . I'll wish you the best wherever you go.

I have been thinking of moving down to florida from the Toronto area....getting sick of the winters, high taxes, ect.!!!
Bringing your car over isn't too hard...you will need the following:
You will need to pay GST 5% and 6.1% duty on the value of your car. You will then need to pay $230 (?) for your RIV package. You will need to send them a copy of a "no open recalls" letter from your local dealer,Once you get the RIV package you will need to take your car to any Canadian Tire Store and have it inspected (will take 5 minutes and it's free) They will check mainly for day time running lights.
Once they stamp your form then you need to get a drive clean test and have it "certified" by a mechanic...once that is done you can go to the licencing office and get your plates. It's really not that hard, just be ready to cough up some money for our great government!!!
Good luck

I would like to ask two more questions, how long can you keep your car in Canada with a US license plate? (For example 6 months a year, etc.)
And is the 5% and 6.1% taxes from the current value or the initial value?
