Procedures to bring your car to Canada???
Hey guys,
I am planning to move to Canada in a year for a job, and I really want to take my car with me when I move. I am kind of attached to her
Anyone know the procedures to take the car to Canada? I know that KM is used instead of Miles, would it be a problem (like changing the Odometer, or reflashing the ECU)? Also do you pay any taxes? Can you keep the car in Canada with a US License Plate?
Thanks in advance.

If it is a 1 year move then why not keep the car registered and insured in Florida? It will save you a whole ton of paperwork and headaches. Check with your insurance company and make sure it is OK for extended stays in other countries.
As for changing the milage to km, easy to do via the PCM and control switches on your steering column. My car came from the US, and short of the analog speed gauge, everything else is in km. You can even turn your DRL on if you have Sport Chrono without going to the dealer.
Where are you moving to?

I am planning to stay more than a year, probably 2-3 years. I am thinking of Toronto. That is why I need to learn all the procedures...
You are right about the PCM, I totally forgot about it Are your Gauges in Miles or Km?

Check out www.riv.ca they will be able to tell you what you need to transfer for Canadian registration.
My digital information is in metric, the analog gauge is still in mph. As for mods to my 06 to get into Canada, DRL's was the only thing that was needed. You will need to get it inspected and a letter from PCNA that there are no recalls on the car. The rest is easy.

The DRL's on a 997.1 is the headlights at a lower output.

Vancouver...yes.
I am sure that there are people in Toronto that will be crazy enough to do it...but they live in Toronto and you need to be crazy to live there!
BTW, better start learning about hockey. Canadians live and breathe the game!

If you are into snowboarding, then the Calgary or Vancouver are your best bets. Calgary has had the Winter Olympics, and we have them next year. Vancouverites claim to ski in the morning and golf in the afternoon, all year round.

I lived there for 4 years and didn't enjoy it. The winters are fricken cold, and I don't mind it cold. The general attitude of people is different then the West Coast.

I have never been to Vancouver, I heard that it is great tho! If I can find a job there I might go to Vancouver as well... But I would like to see it before I can say anything How can you ski in the morning and golf in the afternoon? How does the weather work over there

Hey Ed,
what year were you in Toronto? I did Med school at U of T from 1989 to 1993.
Weather is more extreme in Toronto, hot in summer, very cold in winter. I remembered with wind chills temp. could go down to -30 degree celcius or worse. When I was walking around downtown, I had to cover everything and just expose my eyes.
Also, more traffic congestions in Toronto. A lot more people use public transit and subways there.
@sin911,
good luck in Toronto. If you like busier cities you will love it.
I have a doctor friend that drives a C2 there, but also has another winter car.

One of my best friends goes to school in Toronto, she actually really enjoys living there... I have been to Toronto a couple of times, I liked it as well. But living somewhere is different than going for a vacation and spend a week... I don't know what to say about the cold, my *** has been getting fatter from the heat in Florida for 4 years now
