The VW affect
When Daimler bought Chrysler their quality went right in the **** tank.
When Ford bought Land Rover their electrical systems got better.
What affect do you think VW ownership will have on Porsche?
If things slide could the 997 be know as the last "pre-VW" Porsche with a negative connotation towards the later cars?
Just wondering.....

I was wondering the same thing as I was always planning to trade in my 997 for the next 911. But at the same time, when Fiat bought a huge stake in Ferrari in 1969, some people wonder if the 275 GTB was the last real Ferrari, but the next car released was the 365 GTB/4 Daytona, which embodies Ferrari as well as any of it's forebears.
The way Porsche is pumping out cars like the Carrera GT and the GT-3RS, maybe the best is yet to come!

I think that it will allow Porsche to continue to build industry leading vehicles. Porsche faced some huge hurtles with the CAFE requirements just around the corner, VAG has enough product lines to allow the group to meet the requirements.
I have owner 6 Audi/VW's in the last 10 years, and they make great cars. I will agree that others may have had some bad experiences with VW, but they improved Bentley and Lambo since they took them over. Porsche makes great cars, but everything in life has room to improve.
