Engine problem with new C4S

I pulled the trigger recently and picked up a 2009 midnight/sand beige 6-speed C4S coupe. It had 34 miles on it. At around 200 miles of gentle break in driving, the "check engine" light came on. Dealer said the fault code was due to a defective valve control solenoid. They overnighted one from Atlanta and installed it today. Now, fault code indicates a "bank #2" communication problem with the valve control solenoids. The service advisor said the intake valves are not opening correctly due to this fault. They are awaiting further instructions from Porsche ..........

Anyone have or hear of this? Is it just a variocam control issue? Should I be worried? The dealer did give me a 2009 Cayman S as a loaner I posted on renntech as well.

Thanks for all the invaluable info you 6speeders have provided

Early cars had a HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) issue. Do you know the production date of your car?

Ask them to check the HPFP.

Sounds like a SNAFU from the factory with that low of miles. PCNA usually works pretty hard to straighten such issues out a quickly as possible. Let us know what they find, mainly what the repair receipt says, since the service writers usually talk out their ***.

Got my car back last night and all appears to be well. Interesting and confusing problem, however. The original fault code was P1381 "valve adjustment one bank in wrong lift." The technician "pulled up the actual values for the short test results and found that bank one read OK and bank two read faulty." To make a long story short - as it was explained to me - the diagnostic software from Porsche for the new DFI engine had a problem. It took a few days to discover that the diagnostic software indicated "OK" when there was a fault and indicated "fault" when it was OK. So, although I did have a faulty valve control solenoid, they initially replaced the good one and left in the faulty one. Once this software glitch was discovered, the faulty solenoid was replaced and all ran well. The actual The service report is two pages of what they were doing after instructions from "PTECH" They apparently discovered the software problem after using a "NOID LIGHT" on each valve control solenoid while the engine was running to verify it was receiving the correct signal. That's when they discovered that the solenoid that was faulty read "OK" - and the one that read "OK" was faulty. The service writer said the tech was frustrated because he didn't speak German, and they spent a lot of time translating.

The car runs WAY better than the first 200 miles !!!! Hard to keep below 4200 rpms........
