change front bumper to GT3

I am considering changing my stock front bumper to a GT3 bumper. I know the GT3 bumper looks terrific. My hesitation is the drivability around town. You guys that have made this switch, any regrets. BTW car is stock hight now but I will be lowering it with PSS9's in a couple weeks.

I have the GT3 bumper (basically - factory aerokit) with stock ride height, and it's just - just barely - high enough to get around without problems.

Lowered, you will scrape alot more stuff.

You will be buying replacement spoiler lips (see http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...er=99750598392)

I think you can get them for less elsewhere, but you can see that they are easy to replace yourself.

Yes, you will def. scrape with a lowered susp. and a GT3 bumper. If you can get in the habit of entering/exiting sideways, its not such a big deal. Some dips are going to be totally unavoidable, slowing down before taking them head on will lessen the damage to the front lip. Consider it a disposable item. No Regrets!

Same here. GT3 bumper just makes the car look that much better. I have it with Bilstein Damptronic lowered 15mm from stock 997S height. As long as you enter driveways and tall speed bumps @ 45 degree angle, you'll minimize scraping; however, just accept the fact that you will scrape every now and then, but that's a small price to pay.

I've got the GT3 front bumper on my car and it's also lowered 15mm with TechArt springs. Driving isn't to bad and you just have to be a little careful upon entering and exiting driveways and such. A little more of a pain and some patience when buying gas, going to the store, etc. but the look is well, well, worth it. The beauty is that the small lower lip is easy and relatively cheap to replace. I basically think of it as a disposible piece.

One of the many reasons I sold my 997 GT3 was the front bumper / lip. Scraped on everything (driveway aprons, speed bumps, etc.) It would even scrape at certain intersections just because the pavement met at imperfect angles. Basically, while the GT3 was a great track car, it was a less-than-perfect street car. End result was my 09 C2S w/ Sport PASM / LSD. Happy again - fantastic street car, extremely potent track car. I'd not even consider changing my front bumper on this car.

Stock ride height, I think my TechArt spoiler is about GT3 level - without lowering. I scrape on my own driveway, which is pretty mellow. Good thing it is pretty well made, since it doesn't have a lip to replace. I suppose it won't live forever...

+1. I've got mine configured just about the same way (see my signature). Yes you have to be careful driving on the diagonal and avoid absurdly steep driveways (very rare). And bottom scraping rarely shows. But the deep scrapes or bumping in to parking lot does . But the splitter is a replaceable part, and the marks are just a badge of courage.
It completely changes the look of the car. My two sons, coming home from college were wowed by it.
I'm quite OCD and if I think it's worth it, you will to!

On a similar topic, I just ordered some Cargraphic grills for the three front air openings in my GT3 front bumper. Hope to have them on in a few weeks. Will match the grills I have in my Rinspeed rear bumper openings.
